Warehouse Organizational Structure

Warehouse
Management
Overview
OVERVIEW-What is Warehouse Management System?
The SAP Warehouse Management (WM) application provides
flexible, automated support to assist in processing all goods
movements and in maintaining current stock inventories in
warehousing complex. ..

• Define and manage complex warehousing structures

• Optimize material flow using advanced putaway and picking
techniques.
• Process goods receipts, goods issues and stock transfers quickly
and easily.
• Track and control the movement of materials within the
warehouse.
OVERVIEW-WM Integration
 Most activities that take place within WM
are initiated in Inventory Management
(IM ) such as GR and GI.

 WM is also interfaced to Sales and

Distribution (SD) through the Shipping
module to process delivery documents.

 The WM interface to Quality

Management (QM) allows warehouse
administrators to track and manage
inspection lots that are stored in the
warehouse.

 WM is also interfaced to the Production

Planning (PP) system to assist in providing
materials to supply areas in production.

WAREHOUSE NUMBER
• The highest level in WM in SAP ECC

• Each warehouse number contains a number of

subordinate organizational units
storage types

storage sections

and picking areas (depending on the settings in

Customizing)

• WH number will be assigned to a combination of plant

and storage location
STORAGE TYPE

• A storage type is defined as a type of

storage area on the basis of its spatial,
technical, and organizational
characteristics.

• Map a storage space that forms a

separate unit within a warehouse
number.

• The interim storage areas play a

special role, form a sort of bridge to
Inventory Management. (for ex: GR
area: 902, GI area: 916)
STORAGE TYPE

Typical examples of storage types that

you can define using WM include:
•Bulk storage
•Open storage Interim storage Type Description
•High rack storage 100 Production Supply
901 GR Area for Production
•Picking area
902 GR Area External Rcpts
•Shelf storage 911 GI Area for Cost Center
914 GI area Production Orders
921 Stock Transfers (StLoc)
999 Differences
STORAGE TYPE
STORAGE SECTION
• A storage section are created
within storage types to further
divide the storage space.
• Groups together storage
bin with similar features for
the purpose of putting away
stock.
Ex: heavy parts, bulky materials,
fast-moving items, slow-
moving items.
STORAGE BIN
• The smallest available unit of space in a warehouse.
• Describes the position in the warehouse where the goods are or can be stored.
• The coordinates of the bins indicate the exact position in the warehouse where
goods can be stored.
Ex: Bin 01-02-03, can refer to a storage bin in row 1, stack 2, and level 3.
STORAGE BIN
Storage bin is considered as master data in WMS
QUANT
• The stock of any material with the same features in one storage bin.
• The quantity of a quant can be increased by an addition to existing stock
• Quants can be created or deleted solely through goods movements.

What data will identify a separate

quant in a storage bin?
 Quant identification
 Plant
 Material number
 Batch number
 Stock category
 Special stock indicator and
number
QUANT
For Example:
Bin1 has two quants, Bin2 contains 2 quants of material 3,
• a single quant for material 1
each with a separate batch number.
• a single quant for material 2.

Bin3 has a single quant

of material 4.

No SU management 100pcs 100pcs 100pcs

Bin 3: 300pcs (Quant 1)

With SU management
Bin 3: Box 1: 100pcs (Quant 1)
Bin 3: Box 2: 100pcs (Quant 2)
Bin 3: Box 3: 100pcs (Quant 3)

Bin4 has 2 quants of material 5.

The first quant is quality inspection stock with a stock category of "Q".
The second quant of material 5 has been released from inspection and is now "unrestricted"
stock that is available for use.
