The Role of Physical Activity
Assessments in Managing One’s
Stress
● Stress management is one of the most essential life skills that we all need to learn in this
fast-paced life. We could acquire stress from school, work, business, money, love, marriage,
and even family. Hence, there are ways to manage stress. There 3 are numerous ways to deal
with stress depending on the stress level of the individual and overall attitude towards life.
● Sports doctors and health professionals identified and believed that exercising is one of the
ways to overcome stress. Scientifically, physical activity improves both oxygen intake and
blood flow in the body. As the body acquire more oxygen, body reacts to produce more
hormones such as endorphins which is responsible for euphoria and overall improved well-
being.
● Exercise could help an individual improve their physical but not on cognitive or emotional
side.
● One way to deal with stress is thru exercise. As you do some exercise program, it improves
the coordination of critical body organs in your body. When you feel stressed, this tension is
transferred to your organs and this explains why stress is associated with life-threatening
diseases like heart attack. When you go for a run, the cardiovascular, the muscular, the
respiratory and nervous systems are engaged. This way, they learn to communicate better,
thus improve their coordination when coping with the demands of your body
● Other people tend to do stress eating just to cope up with stress. When you are stressed, you
eat, get fat, get more stressed and get into depression this becomes a brutal cycle. Luckily,
exercising is not only one of the best ways to deal with stress and depression but also one of
the most effective ways to burn those extra calories that can make you add on a few extra
pounds.
● There are physical signs and symptoms common to stressed individual like dizziness,
general aches and pains, grinding teeth, clenched jaw, headaches, indigestion or acid reflux
symptoms, increase in or loss of appetite, muscle tension in neck, face or shoulders,
problems sleeping, racing heart, cold and sweaty palms, tiredness, exhaustion,
trembling/shaking, and weight gain or loss
● Exercise is not the only way to cope up stress but really a great help. There are other ways
to cope up with stress such as meditation, deep breathing, biofeedback and planning not to
do some activities that could trigger stress. Physical activity is not only one of the best ways
to deal with stress and anxiety but also a good way to stay fit and healthy.
