    OCEAN

    CURRENTS
    Ocean currents are large volume
    of water flowing in a certain direction.
    They are thousands in kilometers in
    length and 200 km wide.
    Types of ocean currents
    1. Warm currents

    2. Cold currents
    Ocean currents are large volume

    1. Warm currents
    They flow away from the
    equator.
    2. Cold currents
    They flow towards the equator.
    Ocean currents move in a certain
    direction.

    Northern Hemisphere- the current


    flows in a clockwise direction.

    Southern Hemisphere- the current


    flows in counterclockwise direction.

    These movements of the ocean


    currents are caused by CORIOLIS
    EFFECT.
    To sum it up:

    Warm currents flow from the


    equator towards the pole that carries
    warm air and when reaches a
    landmass, the temperature of the
    area becomes higher, resulting to a
    warmer climate.
    Cold currents flow from the poles
    towards the equator that carries cold
    air and when reaches a landmass, the
    temperature of the area becomes
    lower, resulting to a colder climate.
    Example:
    The Kuroshio current brings warm
    water in the eastern part of Japan as
    far north as Tokyo, so, it makes the
    temperature of those places higher. It
    is called as the BLACK CURRENT
    because of it appears a deeper blue
    in color.
    Example:
    West Australian current brings
    cold air in the southwestern parts of
    Singapore and Indonesia making the
    temperature of those places lower
    resulting to a colder climate.
