What is a flood?
 Floods are not a foreign thing to us. Living in a tropical climate, Malaysia receives a high
annual rainfall, which is between 1200mm (in dry areas) to more than 4000mm in areas
such as Bukit Larut, Perak. The Northeast monsoon which occurs between November to
March each year brings monthly rainfall of up to 600mm, thus bringing the threat of floods
in low -lying areas. In urban areas, flash floods often occur after heavy rains cause
property damage and also cause inconvenience such as traffic congestion.
Factors affecting floods
*Floods occur due to several factors. Among the factors that occur in floods
are:-

Continuous rain
 Continuous rain without stopping will
cause floods. Therefore, in low-lying
areas, rainwater will flow into the river.
Water-filled rivers will overflow causing
low-lying areas to be flooded.

balancing foreseeable risks with benefits before occupying a flood danger zone. safe the safety of critical
communities, such as hospitals, emergency operations centers, and police, fire, and rescue, should be
