PHRASAL VERBS
A phrasal verb is a verb that consists of two or three words.
These words are usually a verb + an adverb or a verb + a preposition.
Examples:

Transitive or Intransitive?
• Transitive: The verb has a direct object.

Transitive Phrasal Verbs
• When a phrasal verb is transitive (have a direct object) can be:
Separable Inseparable
Turn on the laptop Get on the train

Turn the laptop on Get the train on


Separable Phrasal Verbs
• It’s important to remember that an object can be replaced by
an object pronoun. Ex: The light it
• In these cases, the phrasal verb MUST be always
separated. Otherwise, it will be wrong. Example:
Turn it off

Def: to enter or exit a mode of transportation. It works for boats,
trains, airplanes, bicycles and motorcycles.
