This document discusses flatulence during pregnancy. It defines flatulence as passing gas from the digestive system through the anus, which is a normal process. During pregnancy, increased levels of progesterone and serotonin can cause the intestines and digestion to slow down, leading to more gas buildup. The growing uterus can also put pressure on the abdominal cavity. Certain foods like beans, fried foods, carbonated drinks and spicy foods may exacerbate flatulence. The document provides self-care tips to avoid gas, such as eating smaller more frequent meals, staying hydrated, and exercising.

• DEFINE FLATULENCE IN PREGNANCY
• IDENTIFY INFLUENCING FACTORS OF FLATULENCE IN PREGNANCY • DISCUSS THE SELF CARE MEASURES FOR FLATULENCE IN PREGNANCY DEFINITION
• COMMONLY KNOWN AS FARTING, PASSING WIND, OR HAVING GAS,
FLATULENCE IS A MEDICAL TERM FOR RELEASING GAS FROM THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM THROUGH THE ANUS. IT OCCURS WHEN GAS COLLECTS INSIDE THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM, AND IS A NORMAL PROCESS. • PREGNANCY CAUSES LOTS OF CHANGES TO THE BODY. INCREASED FLATULENCE AND PAINFUL GAS IS ONE POTENTIALLY UNPLEASANT PROBLEM FACED BY EXPECTING MOTHERS. INFLUENCING FACTORS
• PROGESTERONE CAUSES RELAXATION OF INTESTINAL MUSCLES
RELAX MORE WHICH CAUSES DIGESTION TO SLOW DOWN. • SEROTONIN STIMULATES RELEASE OF PEPSIN AND BILE WHICH INTENSIFIES PERISTALSIS CAUSING FLATULENCE IN EARLY PREGNANCY • LATER IN PREGNANCY THE ENLARGING UTERUS PLACES PRESSURE ON THE ABDOMINAL CAVITY, CAUSING MORE GAS BUILDUP INFLUENCING FACTORS
• SOME DIETARY RELATED CAUSES CAN ALSO AGGRAVATE
FLATULENCE • SPICY FOODS, CARBONATED DRINKS, FRUIT JUICES, FRIED FOODS, BEANS AND CAULIFLOWER. • EATING TOO FAST INTRODUCES THE FORMATION OF GAS POCKETS IN THE STOMACH. • HEAVY MEALS WHICH OVERLOAD THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM AND AGGRAVATE FLATULENCE. SELF CARE MEASURES
• AVOID FATTY FRIED FOODS
• DRINK FROM A GLASS WITHOUT USING A STRAW • FOCUS ON SMALLER MEALS THROUGHOUT THE DAY SELF CARE MEASURES
