Sponge Bath & Tub Bath
Purpose: To provide hygiene To promote comfort and relaxation To promote proper circulation
Materials: Steps: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15. Wash your hands. Assemble equipments. Wash sink or tub with disinfectant. Place a towel on the counter next to the sink or tub, as you may want to lay the infant down to dry him. Fill the tub or sink with 1-2 inches of lukewarm water. Close the doors and windows. Turn off the aircon or fan and provide good source of light. Get the body temperature of an infant. Undress the infant (cap, gloves, dress, socks, diaper), wrap him in a towel or blanket and bring him to the bathing area. Unwrap the baby and gently place /immerse him in the tub with your one hand holding the baby. Never let go, not even for a second. Wash the baby from the hair applying small amount of shampoo down to the babys body including both extremities using babys bath soap. Turn to baby to his back gently wash the back with babys soap. Wash the babys perineum/genitalia. Rinse the baby thoroughly with lukewarm water Lift the baby out of the water and place him /her on the towel laid out on the counter. Undress the infant (cap, gloves, dress, socks, diaper), wrap him in a towel or blanket and bring him to the bathing area. Using cotton balls moistened with warm water and squeezed out. Gently wipe the infants eyes from inner to outer cantus. Used one clean cotton balls for each eye. Wash the face using a soft mitten cloth in S-fashion and pat dry. Wash the ear and neck using mitten cloth. To wash hair, hold the infant in a football hold. Cover the ear of the infant and apply small amount of shampoo. Rinse hair and pat it dry. Lay the infant and expose the upper extremity and wash using mitten cloth. Pay particular attention to the enterdigital spaces of the fingers. Pat dry and cover. Do the same way to the other/opposite part. Expose the chest & wash using mitten cloth. Pay particular attention between the folds of the skin. Pat dry and cover. Asses the umbilical cord and cover the part. Expose the lower extremity and wash using mitten cloth. Pay particular attention to the skin folded in his legs. Pat dry and cover it. Do the same procedure to the other/opposite part. Asses and turn the infant to side gently and wash using mitten cloth. Pat it dry and cover. Do the perennial care. If your infant is female slightly retract the labia and wash it from front to back using 3 separated cotton balls and dry it well. If male, clean the Infant basin or sink 2 (two) bath towels Cotton balls Wash cloth Lukewarm water Babys soap (optional) Baby oil (optional) Baby shampoo (optional) Babys layettes Baby blanket
