The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM)
Is given to men and women between 18 to 40 who shown
selfless dedication to their profession that has resulted in
outstanding contribution to their individual fields and well-
being of their fellowmen

was started by the manila chapter of jaycees or Junior


Chamber International which is a multinational civic
organization, in April 6,1959

it was adopted into nationwide project of the organization and


a foundation put up in 1990 with the help of Jaycees National
Officers and former TOYM Awardees to support the annual
search
In 1996, the award was changed to TOYF or
The Outstanding Young Filipinos to give equ
al oppurtunities for women
In 1999, the name was changed back to TOY
M in order to respect the original name of the
award and to emphasized "men" in the name
of the award referes to both gender
Napoleon Abueva
a native of Bohol, was the youngest National Artist awarde
e. Considered as the Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture,
Abueva has helped shape the local sculpture scene to wha
t it is now. Being adept in either academic representational
style or modern abstract, he has utilized almost all kinds of
materials from hard wood (molave, acacia, langka wood, ip
il, kamagong, palm wood and bamboo) to adobe, metal, st
ainless steel, cement, marble, bronze, iron, alabaster, coral
and brass.
Among the early innovations Abueva introduced in 1951 was
what he referred to as “buoyant sculpture” — sculpture meant
to be appreciated from the surface of a placid pool. In the 80’
s, Abueva put up a one-man show at the Philippine Center, Ne
w York. His works have been installed in different museums he
re and abroad, such as The Sculpture at the United Nations he
adquarters in New York City.
The Outstanding Filipino(TOFIL)
-It is the couterpart of TOYM
-The TOFIL Awards recognize Filipinos who have
demonstrated exceptional qualities of being
transformational leaders by putting their passion
and energy into all their endeavors and creating
significant impact in the process.
Zenaida Amador
THE “MOTHER” of the country’s oldest theater group, Repertory Philippines, Z
enaida “Bibot” Amador left behind a legacy of theater excellence and a “broo
d” of world-class stage artists when she died of lung cancer last Nov. 28.
Amador formed Repertory Philippines Foundation Inc. as president and artistic
director in 1967, training theater hopefuls including Lea Salonga and Monique
Wilson of Miss Saigon fame. “To me she was a fantastic teacher because sh
e never took any excuses. She always said, ‘I hate the words pwede na becau
se that means mediocrity. And if you’re (going to) be mediocre, you have no p
lace in theater’,” Wilson told Businessworld.
QUALIFICATIONS

-filipino Citizen (natural-born, naturalizen citizens, or


bearing dual citizenship)
-At least forty-one years old
-Has good moral character
- has made noteworthy contributions to his/her profession
or to the development to his/her profession or to the
development of the nation
Thirteen Artists Awards (TAA)
-Started in 1970 by the Cultural Center Philippines and was
created to motivated upcoming generations of visual artist
- the name of the award was first coined by the CCP direcor
Roberto Chabet who likened the set of awardees to the
thirteen moderns who pioneered the modernist movement in
the Philippines
the recipients of the awards are varied and offer no standard
template, like that of the constantly changing and evolving
face of art in the Philippines
-the awards were given every two years but later changed t
o every three years in 2009, this change was made to better
see the progression of art styles and trends and how artist ta
ckle and answer artistic challenges.

-Also the selection process was changed. At first the selecti


on of artist were made by the CCP visual director, but as of
1988 the election is processd through nomination of differe
nt art council in the philippines to a better presentation ofth
e different contemporary art forms present in the country
Marciano Galang
Born in Cabusao, Camarines Sur, 1945 (Multimedia works) Awarded the M.M. Castr
o scholarship, UP from 1962 to 1964. BFA UP 1966. First solo, Gallery Indigo, 196
7. Was part of Contemporary art in Asia, 1965; the Phil Contemporary prints Show in
Geneva, 1967; the First Indian Triennale, 1968; and the 7th Paris Biennale, 1971.
Leans toward abstraction and minimalism bordering on the conceptual. Works identifi
ed with those Roberto Chabet, Lee Aguinaldo, and Ray Albano, all of whom are involve
d in exploring processes and materials outside the usual norms. Cert of merit, SNSAC
of 1964; and hon mention, AAP annual, 1967. Was a Thirteen Artists awardee, CCP
1970.
Qualification
-A Filipino Citizen less than forty years old
Artworks must be relevant to the present situations
-Works must be presented in a form of contemporary art
- Work must be evident of integrity,uniqueness and thought-
provoking ideas
Artist must have been continuosly producing artworks as
documented through solo and group exhibitions
the artist should be nominated by one of the following:
a. Art Councils
b. Art groups
c. Head or deans of art schools
d. Museum or gallery curators
e. Art critics
f. Former TAA Awardees

-is the hoghest award the cultural center of the


phillippines can give to artists or group of artist whose
body of work has constanly shown high quality and has
contributed to the development of their chosen art
forms

The awards recognized artist of the following art forms:


visual arts, music, dance, theater, fim, literature,
broadcast arts, technocal theater and producing design
There are three categories:
Category A
is given to artist or group of artist that have continu
osly produced high quality works.
also includes artist who have created or developed
a unique style that contributes to the growth of his/
her art
Artist who won distinctions from respected nation
al and international competions are also included h

Example artist of category A of CCP:
Alice Reyes. The name Alice Reyes has become a signific
ant part of Philippine dance parlance. As a dancer, choreo
grapher, teacher and director, she has made a lasting imp
act on the development and promotion of contemporary d
ance in the Philippines. Her dance legacy is evident in the
dance companies, teachers, choreographers and the exciti
ng Filipino modern dance repertoire of our country today.
Category B
-is for artist or group of artist that have made great contributions to the development of their art and craftsin t
heir region whether birth or residence

Florentino Hornedo
was born in Savidug, Sabtang, Batanes on October 16, 1938. He received his BSE from the U
niversity of Santo Tomas in 1961, his MAs in English and Philosophy from St. Louis University i
n 1966 and 1972 respectively, his Ph.D. in Literature from UST in 1977, and a post doctorat
e in History and Political Science from UST completed in 1985-88. He also has training in Jour
nalism and Cultural Anthropology.
Dr. Hornedo has authored 13 books in Philosophy, Education, Culture and History. He has been
editor of Ad Veritatem , a Journal of Research at the UST Graduate School, and Ivatan Studies J
ournal , a Graduate School Research Journal at the Saint Dominic College of Batanes.
He has garnered several awards , among them the Don Carlos Palanca
Memorial Awards for Literature, National Catholic Authors Award, Pilak A
ward for Service to Culture, the Arts and Community, of the Cultural Cent
er of the Philippines, Annual Book Awards of Ateneo de Manila University,
Batanes Provincial Achievement Recognition for Cultural and Social Rese
arch, Recognition Award for Social Research, from the UST College of Ed
ucation Alumni Association, and Most Outstanding Thomasian Alumni Aw
ardee in the Arts & Humanities 2006.
Category C
recognizes people and cultural workers who h
ave contributed to the cultural development of
art in the country through research, curatorshi
p and administration
Dr. Nicanor G. Tiongson is professor emeritus of the U.P. Film Institute and former
dean of the College of Mass Communication, University of the Philippines Diliman.
He served as artistic director and vice president of the Cultural Center of the Philip
pines.  He is a founding member and former chair of the Manunuri ng Pelikulang P
ilipino.  He has published pioneering studies in Philippine film and theater. Among
his film books are The Cinema of Manuel Conde and  the four volumes of The Uria
n Anthology, which collect  the film articles, reviews and interviews of the Manunur
i ng Pelikulang Pilipino from 1970 to 2009.  He has also authored The Women o
f Malolos and edited the ten-volume  CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art.  He has
written plays like Pilipinas Circa 1907, Basiila ng Malolos, Noli at Fili Dekada 20
00, and Mabining Mandirigma.
