INTRODUCTION
Biometric sensors work by producing electrical
currents when they scan a user's physical
characteristic. Many physical characteristics may be
scanned by a biometric sensor including eyes,
fingerprints, or DNA. Sensors contain an analog to
digital converter enabling it to digitize the image and
store the digital information in memory so that it can
verify the user next time he or she needs to
authenticate their identity.
FEATURES OF BIOMETRIC SENSORS

* Distinct algorithms are installed in a biometric sensor to ensure

precise user authentication as the output.

* The physical traits, like fingerprints, face metrics, vein structures in

hands and others are used by these devices to prepare templates.

* Fast identification and verification are included in the list of

features offered by these biometric security devices.

* These devices are available in three different categories, including

semiconductor sensors, optical sensors and ultrasound sensors.
ADVANTAGES
* Compact and lightweight in design, these biometric devices can be
installed with high convenience.

* The results offered by identification and verification processes of

these biometric security devices are fats and accurate.

* Identification process is easy, as there is no need of exploring the

documents or remembering passwords.

* These devices offer security at low-cost, without demanding for

high investments and high-level changes in the existing environment.

Conclusions
Biometric technology has great potential
There are many biometric products around, regarding the
different biometric technologies
Shortcomings of biometric systems due to
manufacturers ignorance of security concerns
lack of quality control
standardisation problems

Biometric technology is very promising

Manufacturers have to take security concerns serious
