What is ICT?
What is ICT?
• Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) is a broader term for Information
Technology (IT), which refers to all communication technologies, including the internet,
wireless networks, cell phones, computers, software, middleware, video-conferencing, social
networking, and other media applications and services enabling users to access, retrieve,
store, transmit, and manipulate information in a digital form.
ICTs are also used to refer to the convergence of media technology
such as audio-visual and telephone networks with computer
networks, by means of a unified system of cabling (including signal
distribution and management) or link system. However, there is no
universally accepted definition of ICTs considering that the
concepts, methods and tools involved in ICTs are steadily evolving
on an almost daily basis.
• ICT has contributed a lot to change
our everyday life such as letter to e-
mail, market shopping to on-line
shopping, classroom learning to e-
Information and
learning, etc. This paper present's the
Communication
effects of ICT as Home and
Technology
Domestic Activities, Social
Networking, Education, Health,
Commerce, Banking, and
Employment.
How did ICT changed the world
• ICT changed the world in a way where we are now able
to connect easily through technology. It changes the
way that it also offers us the ability to do our careers. It
assists society in producing more jobs, resulting in
prosperity for our country. When information and
communication technologies (ICT) were developed, the
impossible became possible. We can now create items
that will help us develop our creativity. Even to our
social loves, ICT has a big impact on voicing out our
opinions toward particular issues.

• Technology affects the way individuals communicate, learn, and think.
It helps society and determines how people interact with each other on
a daily basis. Technology plays an important role in society today. It
has positive and negative effects on the world and it impacts daily
lives. We are living in an era where technological advances are
common. The internet and cell phones are some examples. However,
with technological advances, there’s a downside to it all.
The Role of ICT in the Society
• Information and Communication Technologies impacted our
society in various aspects such as:
• Communication
• Learning
• Job employment
• Culture
• Business
How does ICT impacts Communication?

• Communication is one aspect of the society which was greatly impacted by technology,
how we talk and communicate with one another worldwide. Technology brought many
new methods of electronic communication. For example, there are emails, social
networking, you can facetime a person that lives on the other side of the world, and here’s
video conferencing where you can have conferences electronically.
• However, studies show that mobile communication affects people in a negative way when
it comes to being sociable and making face-to-face contact. Mobile technology can
decrease communication and relations between people. There’s less personal time, where
you find that you don’t enough time for yourself because you’re always in contact with
someone.
How does ICT impacts learning?
• One aspect of technology that has had a great impact on society is how it affects learning. It’s
made learning more interactive and collaborative, this helps people better engage with the material
that they are learning and have trouble with. Also, it gets you better access to resources. With the
creation of the internet, it gives us access to information at a twenty-four-hour rate and you have
access to almost anything online.
• In addition, it allows students to get work done easier. Students can take quizzes and exams more
easily, and teachers being able to hold online classes can be very effective. It also expands the
boundaries of the classroom, encouraging self-paced learning. People can access learning througah
YouTube and social media. This helps students learn better than sitting down for lectures and
reading from textbooks. These technological advancements made learning more fun and
convenient.
How does ICT impacts Job Employment?

• The introduction of computers at the workplace has resulted in

Creation of new jobs, Replcement of computer illitrate workers and
Displacement of jobs, ICT has introduced new employment
opportunities that never existed before. The new job titles are
computer operators, programmers, network administrators, ICT
science, software engineering, Freelancer etc.
How does ICT impacts Culture?

• ICT has presented challenges to our moral and cultural values. ICT has
changed the way we talk, affected our privacy, human rights and
integrity e.g.:
• Use of internet
• Computer related crime for example: hacking, eavesdropping etc.
• Use of computers to forge certificates, passport and other documents.
• Has been used as a complaint platform against illegal acts.
How does ICT impacts Business?
• ICT impacted business through the use of technologies in manufacturing
industries to automate their process in order to reduce cost, increase production
e.g computer controlled robots. ICT systems allow your business to store, process,
analyze and share vast amounts of data. The information available from corporate
data enables managers and employees to make decisions quickly and accurately so
that they can manage operations effectively and respond rapidly to business
opportunities or threats. The use of ICT helps reduce cost, improve productivity,
improves business performance, improves profitability of businesses, reduces
corruption by helping keep accurate records and also makes transaction easy.
