    6 GEOGRAPHIC REGIONS OF SC

    1. Blue Ridge- Named after the Blue Ridge Mountains,


    located in the northwest corner of the state
    (smallest region covering less than 2% of the state).
    2. Piedmont- Stretches from the Fall Line to the Blue
    Ridge
     Means “foot of the mountains” or “foothills”
     Home to over one million people including YOU
    (Greenville, Spartanburg, and Rock Hill)!
    3. Sandhills- extends along the fall zone (the point at
    which the rivers fall from the high land to the lower
    land) Home to Columbia.

    4. Inner Coastal Plain- 130-250 feet above sea


    level. It has rich bottom lands where cotton
    plantations developed after the American
    Revolution
    5. Outer Coastal Plain- between 30-50 miles wide.
    Dark, inland swamps and savanna-areas of flat
    land with the tide.
    6. Coastal Zone- stretches along the Atlantic
    coast. It is about 185 miles long and reaches
    ten miles into the interior of the state.
