RIZAL’S FORMATION

AND EDUCATION
• Doña Lolay was teaching rizal to read a spanish bookelt: El Amigo de
los Niños( The children’s Friend).
• His mother narrated the story of a moth.
• Lucas Padua and Leon Monroy were the tutors of Rizal.
• His first nationalist poem entitled Sa Aking Mga Kababata ( To My
Fellow Children)
EDUCATION IN BIÑAN
• In June 1896, Rizal left Calamba for Biña for private schooling.
• His teacher was Meastro Justiniano Aquino Cruz.
• Rizal’s interest in painting was reborn.
• Together with Jose Guevarra , became apprentice to Juancho.
• After oneand a half year, he left Biñam for Calamba.
ATENEO YEARS
Rizal was sent to ateneo,formerly known as Escuela Pia or Charity
School of Manila which served as the city’s municipal school.

• Bachelor of Arts degree in 1877 at the age of 16.


• Changed his surname from mercado to Rizal.
• Graduated as one of the nine students declared sobresaliente.
Other side of Rizal
• Developed his potential inpainting under Agustin Saez and sculptor
under Teodoro Romulado de Jesus.
• At age 16, Rizal was attracted to Segunda Katigbak.
Santo Tomas
• In April 1877, Rizal enrolled at the University of Santo Timas (UST).
• Studied Philosophy and letters during his first year.
• He returned to Ateneo (1877-1878) and took up vocational courses
for boys and completed th etitle perito agrimensor ( expert surveyor).
• Rizal was unhappy at this Dominican Institution of higher learning
because of:
1. Filipino students were racially discriminated by the Spaniards.
2. The methid of instructio was obsolete and reprrssive.
3. The Dominicam professor were hostile to him.
