ROTARY 101- Rotary Emblem

• A Wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since the earliest days.

• In 1922 it was decided that all Rotary clubs should adopt a single design as the
exclusive emblem of Rotarians.

• Thus in 1923 the wheel with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted by the Rotary
International Association.

• This has since been updated to the yellow wheel shown above

STRENGTHENING ROTARY |
ROTARY 101- OBLIGATIONS OF A ROTARIAN
What you get out of the Rotary Club is what you put into it.
Membership expectations are designed to help members more fully participate and
enjoy their Rotary experience
• Attend Weekly Meetings Regularly
– As a fellowship and service organization, Rotarians count on one another to contribute their
time to weekly meetings, committee work and service events. As a Rotarian attendance is a
must.
• Participate in service projects and club Committee work
– To be a rotarian you must give your time and talents in community work, in social functions, in
club and district activities. Each Rotarian is expected to serve on at least one committee.
• Provide Financial Support
– Rotary club members are expected to have the following financial obligations
• A one Time membership fee
• Semi annual Dues (Rotary International + District + Country + Sunshine)

– Members are also encouraged to contribute to the Rotary Foundation and their own club fund
raising initiatives.

STRENGTHENING ROTARY |
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
ROTARY 101-CLUB MEETINGS
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
• Rotary clubs hold regular meetings where
their members gather to socialize and to
discuss their current projects, other
Rotary matters, and professional topics.

• While most clubs meet in person, some

clubs meet primarily online or have a
combination of in-person and online
meetings.

• Rotary is both apolitical and

nonreligious, and Rotary clubs are
encouraged to create an inclusive
environment for all club members at their
meetings.
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
ROTARY 101- DIVERSITY
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST • As an international
organization, Rotary values its
diversity around the world and
within each club.
• Each club strives to reflect the
diversity of its community by
including members from a
mix of professions, genders,
ages, and ethnicities.
• Having members with
different backgrounds and
viewpoints gives your club a
broader understanding of the
community and its problems,
and better equips it to find
solutions.
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
ROTARY 101-THE FOUR-WAY TEST-OUR VALUES & BELIEFS
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
• Early Rotary members emphasized the importance of acting
responsibly and ethically and using our professions as an opportunity to
serve.

• Honoring our commitments, however bold, is an ideal characteristic of

a Rotarian.

• In 1932, The Four-Way Test was developed by Herbert Taylor, a

Rotary Club of Chicago member and 1954-55 RI President, to guide his
attempt to save a faltering aluminum company.

• Rotary later adopted it, and it underscores Rotary’s value of integrity.

The Four-Way Test has long served as an ethical guide for members to
live by in their personal and professional relationships.
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
ROTARY 101-THE FOUR-WAY TEST-OUR VALUES & BELIEFS
ROTARY101-4-WAY TEST
Of the things we think, say, or
do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL
and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to
all concerned?
ROTARY 101- THE OBJECT OF ROTARY-VALUES & BELIEFS
“to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis
of worthy enterprise”
First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity
for service.
Second: High ethical standards in business and
profession. The recognition of the worthiness of all useful
occupations. The dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation
as an opportunity to serve society.
Third: The application of the ideal of service in one’s
personal, business, and community life.
Fourth: The advancement of international understanding,
goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of
business and professional persons united in the ideal of
service.

ROTARY 101- Polio Plus
• Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 30
years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer
than ever.

• As a founding partner of the

Global Polio Eradication Initiative, we've reduced polio
cases by 99.9 percent since our first project to vaccinate
children in the Philippines in 1979.

• We've helped immunize more than 2.5 billion children in 122

countries. So far, Rotary has contributed more than $1.8
billion toward eradicating the disease worldwide.

• Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan, Nigeria,

and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep
other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped
today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as
200,000 children each year.
