Presented by:
INTRODUCTION
 Belongs to the family of viruses known as coronaviruses
 Generally infect bats, pigs, small mammals and may transfer to human

China
 Though the cases of outbreak was reported in December, officially it was confirmed on
January 07, 2020.
 Sparked a global panic and on January 30th, was deemed to be pandemic
 Current mortality rate has been 3.4%
 Most cases of COVID 19 have been mild
HISTORY OF EVOLUTION
 Various form of corona virus had been identified
 First known in 1960
 Previous major virus were SARS and MERS
ORIGIN OF CORONA VIRUS
 Originated in bats, which are host of many illnesses
 Transferred to other animals
 First appeared in December 12 in Wuhan
HOW IT TRANSMITS
 It spreads from person to person via respiratory droplets that are emitted from infected person
into the air, which is inhaled by other people.
 There is also possible transmission through surfaces
TRANSMISSION AND
PREVENTIVE MEASURES
PERSON TO PERSON SPREAD
(EXAMPLE)
 Let’s take an example of myself
 Suppose I recently somehow got infected before coming to the presentation
 During the presentation I might take few coughs or sneezes or even throw the droplets during
speaking.
 As I finish the presentation and move back, the next presenter might come and inhale the air
with the infected droplets.
 Now, there is a possibility that he is also affected.
 Further, I go back to my own seat and he goes to his own, now we slowly transmit this
diseases within few hours to all, if there are not proper safety measures being adapted
WHO IS AT HIGHEST RISK
 All ages are being infected
 But mortality rate of people of older age is higher
 Similarly children are also being infected
 Highest risk
 Healthcare workers
 People in close contact
 Person who are travelling
 Elderly people
 People with other disease, which has a impact on immune system
 Pregnant women
CURRENT STATISTICS WORLD
WIDE (UPDATE AS PER THE
DAY)
 Highest Death Toll : Italy (i.e.
 Highest Infection: USA (i.e.
 Highest Recovery: China (i.e.
 Second Highest Death Toll: Spain (i.e.
 Second Highest Infection: Italy (i.e.
 Infection in Nepal: 6
GLOBAL PANDEMIC
 Around the world
 Strict quarantine and isolation
 Lockdown measures in various countries
 Number of countries have declared state of emergency
 Banned social gathering, games, schools, restaurants and even religious places
WHAT SHOULD A PERSON DO
IF ONE SUSPECTS OF HAVING
INFECTED
 Call for help from the doctor
 Wear a facemask
 Stay home
 Avoid public area
 Take a medical care as soon as possible
INCUBATION PERIOD
 It is time to appear the symptoms after the infection
 It might be from 2 days to 14 days.
 Average days was calculated to be 5.2 days
IN NEPAL
 Only six person has been identified as the infected person, out of which 1 person has
sucessfully recovered
 Nepal being a close proximity to the China, had posed a serious threat of being affected
country
 Further the weak health facility compared to various developed nation, Nepal pose a serious
threat
 Out of 6 patients, 3 patients travelled through the same airlines, i.e. Qatar airlines
THREATS OF CORONA VIRUS
TO NEPAL
 Three people had been identified
 Geographical position
 Weak border management practice
 Lack of proper medical facilities
 Lack of proper equipment
 Lack of awareness among the people
CHALLENGES DURING
CORONA VIRUS OUTBREAKS
 Lack of knowledge and understanding amongst communities regarding pandemics,
 Incapacity of prevailing health system in managing a disaster,
 Lack of resources and experienced health care professionals,
 Limited facility for timely and coordinated response amongst local, civil and government
bodies,
 Inadequate surveillance and monitoring,
 Improper isolation and containment measures and
 Lack of in-country laboratory facilities for confirmation of causative agents.
PREVENTION AND CONTROL
MEASURES
 Assessment of risk

 Source control

 Personal protection measures

 Patient transportation

 Sharps handling

 Precaution in laboratory

 Dedicated patient equipment

 Equipment processing

 Environment cleansing

 Patient education

 Visitor education and management

GOVERNMENT RESPONSE
 Government restricted gathering of more than 25 people in any place, event or office.
 Government restricted the movement of the people from their houses, except for the essential
services.
 Cancellation of visit Nepal 2020 and postpone in near future
 Cancellation of SEE where number of students might have been gathered
 Extension of various isolation and quarantine station
 Airlift and quarantine to the students from China.
ANALYSIS OF THE
GOVERNMENT RESPONSE
 Delayed action for border closing
 Delay in procurement and acquisition of PPE and identification kit
 Lack of preparedness (despite so much time)
 Lack of proper facility (relying on government hospitals and response from security forces)
 Lack of awareness among the people
 Government has formed defensive action, which might slow down the spread of the disease
but offensive action to identify the infected isolation could protect the Nepalese people.
FINDINGS
 It has a huge impact on the world today
 The recent pandemic has been a huge impact in the today society
 The threat of the corona virus could be seen in Nepal as well
RECOMMENDATION
 The reservoir host of Corona Virus is not known. Evidence is accumulating that various bat
species may serve as a source of infection for both humans and wild primates.
 Person-to-Person transmission of Corona Virus requires direct contact with blood or other
virus containing body fluids; from a person who has developed signs and symptoms of Corona
Virus disease.
 Proper cleaning process if conducted from time to time could control the disease from
transmitting
 In the situation of such, government should declare the national emergency and provide
necessary food for the people who are unable to afford due to such situation by properly
identifying them.
