Jesus as God

What does Jesus say about Himself?

Jesus as God
Gospel of Matthew
(Matthew 1:23)
 “See, the virgin will become pregnant and give
birth to a son, and they will name Him
Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.””
 Note: Jesus allowed his disciples to worship him. The
angels did not allow men to worship them:
(Matthew  “Then I fell at the angel’s feet to worship him, but he said to
14:33) “Then me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you and your
those in the brothers who have the testimony about Jesus. Worship
God, because the testimony about Jesus is the spirit of
boat worshiped prophecy.”” (Revelation 19:10)
Him and said,  “I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. When
“Truly You are I heard and saw them, I fell down to worship at the feet of
the Son of the angel who had shown them to me. But he said to me,
“Don’t do that! I am a fellow slave with you, your brothers
God!”” the prophets, and those who keep the words of this book.
Worship God.”” (Revelation 22:8–9)
 “—for you shall not worship any other god, for the LORD,
whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God—” (Exodus 34:14)
 ““What about you?” he asked them. “Who do
(Matthew you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are
16:15–17) the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
 “Good for you, Simon son of John!” answered
Jesus. “For this truth did not come to you from
any human being, but it was given to you
directly by my Father in heaven.”
 “But Jesus kept quiet. Again the High Priest
spoke to him, “In the name of the living God I
(Matthew now put you on oath: tell us if you are the
26:63–64) Messiah, the Son of God.”
 Jesus answered him, “So you say. But I tell all of
you: from this time on you will see the Son of
Man sitting on the right of the Almighty and
coming on the clouds of heaven!””
(Matthew 28:17)
 “When they saw him, they worshipped him, even
though some of them doubted.”
Jesus as God
Gospel of Mark
(Mark 1:1)
 “The beginning of the gospel about Jesus Christ,
the Son of God.”
 “And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic,
“Son, your sins are forgiven.” But some of the scribes
were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why
does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming;
who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately
(Mark 2:5–11) Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that
way within themselves, said to them, “Why are you
reasoning about these things in your hearts? “Which is
easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’;
or to say, ‘Get up, and pick up your pallet and walk’?
“But so that you may know that the Son of Man has
authority on earth to forgive sins”—He said to the
paralytic, “I say to you, get up, pick up your pallet and
go home.””
 “Then He told them, “The Sabbath was made for
(Mark 2:27–28) man and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore,
the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.””
 “And whenever those possessed by evil spirits
(Mark 3:11–12) caught sight of him, the spirits would throw
them to the ground in front of him shrieking,
“You are the Son of God!” But Jesus sternly
commanded the spirits not to reveal who he
was.”
 “With a shriek, he screamed, “Why are you
interfering with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High
(Mark 5:7) God? In the name of God, I beg you, don’t torture
me!””
 “And He said to them, “Are you also as lacking in
understanding? Don’t you realize that nothing
going into a man from the outside can defile
(Mark 7:18–19) him? For it doesn’t go into his heart but into the
stomach and is eliminated.” (As a result, He
made all foods clean. )”
(Mark 15:39)  “When the Roman officer who stood facing him
saw how he had died, he exclaimed, “This man
truly was the Son of God!””
 “A cloud appeared, overshadowing them, and a
(Mark 9:7)
voice came from the cloud: This is My beloved
Son; listen to Him!”
 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in
(Mark 13:26– clouds with great power and glory. He will send
27) out the angels and gather His elect from the four
winds, from the end of the earth to the end of
the sky.”
Jesus as God
Gospel of Luke
 “You will become pregnant and give birth to a
son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be
great and will be called the Son of the Most High
God. The Lord God will make him a king, as his
ancestor David was, and he will be the king of
the descendants of Jacob for ever; his kingdom
will never end!” Mary said to the angel, “I am a
(Luke 1:31–37) virgin. How, then, can this be?” The angel
answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and
God’s power will rest upon you. For this reason
the holy child will be called the Son of God.
Remember your relative Elizabeth. It is said that
she cannot have children, but she herself is now
six months pregnant, even though she is very
old. For there is nothing that God cannot do.””
 “After all the people had been baptized, Jesus
(Luke 3:21–22) also was baptized. While he was praying, heaven
was opened, and the Holy Spirit came down
upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice
came from heaven, “You are my own dear Son. I
am pleased with you.””
 “Jesus returned from the Jordan full of the Holy
Spirit and was led by the Spirit into the desert,
(Luke 4:1–3) where he was tempted by the Devil for 40 days.
In all that time he ate nothing, so that he was
hungry when it was over. The Devil said to him,
“If you are God’s Son, order this stone to turn into
bread.””
 “Jesus answered them, “Haven’t you read what
David did when he and his men were hungry? He
(Luke 6:3–5) went into the house of God, took the bread
offered to God, ate it, and gave it also to his men.
Yet it is against our Law for anyone except the
priests to eat that bread.” And Jesus concluded,
“The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.””
 Then He began to tell the people this parable: “A certain
man planted a vineyard, leased it to vinedressers, and
went into a far country for a long time. Now at vintage-
time he sent a servant to the vinedressers, that they
might give him some of the fruit of the vineyard. But the
vinedressers beat him and sent him away empty-
handed. Again he sent another servant; and they beat
him also, treated him shamefully, and sent him away
empty-handed. And again he sent a third; and they
Luke 20:9-16 wounded him also and cast him out.
 “Then the owner of the vineyard said, ‘What shall I do? I
will send my beloved son. Probably they will respect
him when they see him.’ But when the vinedressers saw
him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, ‘This is
the heir. Come, us kill him, that the inheritance may be
ours.’ So they cast him out of the vineyard and killed
him. Therefore what will the owner of the vineyard do to
them? He will come and destroy those vinedressers and
give the vineyard to others.
 And He said to them, “How can they say that
the Christ is the Son of David? Now David
himself said in the Book of Psalms: “The Lord
Luke 20:41-44 said to my Lord, Sit at My right hand, Till I make
Your enemies Your footstool.” Therefore David
calls Him ‘Lord’; how is He then his Son?”
 They said, “Tell us! Are you the Messiah?”
 Jesus replied, “If I said so, you wouldn't believe
me. And if I asked you a question, you wouldn't
answer. But from now on, the Son of Man will
Luke 22:67-71 be seated at the right side of God All-Powerful.”
 Then they asked, “Are you the Son of God?”
Jesus answered, “You say I am!”
 They replied, “Why do we need more
witnesses? He said it himself!”
 Jesus led his disciples out to Bethany, where he
raised his hands and blessed them. As he was
doing this, he left and was taken up to heaven.
Luke 24:50-53 and was taken up to heaven. After his disciples
had worshiped him, they returned to Jerusalem
and were very happy. They spent their time in
the temple, praising God.

He was doing these things
