BSP launches new coins, “bagong barya” confuses kids
SDES kids learned something new about significant symbols of our country as the Bangko
Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) had formally launched new designs for Philippine coins which they dubbed
as the New Generation Coin series.
The new designs feature three of the country's national heroes, plants that can be found only in
the Philippines, various security enhancements as well as new materials, according to the BSP.
Apolinario Mabini is featured on the P10 coin with the Kapa-kapa plant at the back and the P5
coin features Andres Bonifacio with the Tayabak plant at the back. Meanwhile, National hero Jose
Rizal figures in the P1 coin with the Waling-waling plant at the back.
The 25 centavo, 5 centavo and 1 centavo coins feature the Philippine flag's three stars and a sun
in front and some of the more common indigenous Philippine plants.
Along with the changes, a sudden confusion strikes young learners as the new designs seems to
appear almost the same when not inspected in details.
“Nabayad ko minsan ‘yong isang coin ko sa canteen, akala ko po piso ‘yon pala lima”, said Carl
Justin, a sixth grade learner.

A 42-year old farmer cooperative director was killed after being shot in Brgy. Centro,
Baggao, Cagayan yesterday morning.
Senior Supt. James Andres Melad identified the victim Joey Javier, director of Santo
Domingo Farmers’ Cooperative and a former chapter leader of Kilusang Magbubukid sa
Pilipinas (KMP).
According to Melad, two motorcycle-riding men shot the victim who fled after the
incident.
Based on the report, Javier was about toride in his owner-type jeepney when the
suspects approached him at around 8:00 am and shot in his head and chest using a 45
cal. pistol which caused his death.
Cagayan police is investigating if the reported argument between the victim and the
members of the cooperative is the motive of the killing.

Tuluyan nang ipinagbawal ng pamunuan ng Camp Tinio Elementary School (CTES) ang pagsusunog

araw. Mananatili naman sa garbage facility ng paaralan ang mga dahon upang maging matabang lupa.
“Hinihikayat ko ang mga mag-aaral na tumulong sa pagsasakatuparan ng adhikaing ito sa
pamamagitan ng pagdadala ng sakong pagsisidlan ng mga plastik at papel,” wika ni Gng. De Guzman sa
kick-off ceremony ng naturang polisiya.
