Employability and Work Readiness of BSOA
Students in LSPU- SPCC

Background of the Study

Legal Office Procedure or OFAD 5 is one


of the subject or curriculum taken by the BSOA
students in their third (3rd) year in LSPU- SPCC.
The course/subject aims to inspire and assist
office administration students who in the future
may be positioned as legal secretary in any office
or agencies and be prepared with the use of legal
forms and contracts as complicated forms of
agreements that could save valuable time by
tapping it only for the review of the draft and
those that require legal interpretation.
The subject focuses on the different rich
compilation of basic legal forms and practical tips in
starting and running an enterprise and attending to
the day-to-day legal concerns.
Students of Office Administration after the
completion of the subject in the future may engaged
themselves in business and private office as a legal
secretary or assistant and this would offer them a
useful and convenient guide in the complicated world
of widely used legal forms that they would need in
their daily operations of doing business in the
Philippines.
Objectives of the Study

This study aims to determine the impact of


the subject OFAD 5 or Introduction to Legal Office
Procedure to the employability and work readiness
of BSOA students in LSPU-SPCC. Specifically, it
aims to:

1.Determine the impact of OFAD 5 subject if such


students who took it are qualified to become a
legal secretary in some law firm in the future.
2. Determine whether the practical skill has a
significant advantages for students including their
practice-based learning, general skills
improvement and preparation for their workplace.
Review of Related Literature

Nature of the Field of Study

The Bachelor of Science in Office


Administration program is a four-year course that
prepares the students for a career in an outcome-
focused, technology rich, professional
environment. Courses in the curriculum are those
that will thoroughly familiarize the students with
current techniques in office procedures,
developments in office systems and technology,
good team-working and management skills,
and application of the principles of good human
relations and communications to prepare them to
be key players in day-to-day office operations.
Lessons in writing routine reports and
correspondence and speaking effectively to
employers, employees, and the general public are
provided in selected courses particularly OFAD 5.

Under CHED Memorandum Order No. 19 series


of 2017 on Revised Policies and Standards for
BSOA – Program Goals: are the expected
outcomes for the BSOA graduates within two-five
years is to :
1. Qualify for a career in office administration
specifically in various general and special
administrative support, supervisory and
managerial positions.
2. Acquire the competencies, skills,
knowledge, and work values necessary for
self-employment.

The specific professions/careers/occupations


for graduates are :

OFAD 5 or Legal Office Procedure is part of the


the Professional Elective Courses (18 units),
and provide elective based on students’
needs and response to industry needs and
other stakeholders.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the impact of OFAD 5


subject to the employability and work readiness of BSOA
students in LSPU-SPCC, it specifically sought to answer the
following questions:
1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in
terms of age, gender, course and year level?
2. What are the practical work skills/personal skills of
BSOA students to secure their employability in some
law firms in the future?
3. What workplace attributes/interpersonal skills in a
professional environment that are available to develop
their chosen occupation?
4. Is there a significant relationship between the
demographic profile of the respondents to the employability
and work readiness of BSOA students in LSPU-SPCC?

5. Is there a significant relationship between Practical Work


Skills/Personal Skills to the Employability of BSOA students
in LSPU-SPCC?

6. Is there a significant relationship between Interpersonal


Skills to the Work Readiness of BSOA students in LSPU-
SPCC?
Hypothesis

1. There is no significant relationship with the


demographic profile of the respondents to the
employability and work readiness of BSOA students
in LSPU- SPCC

2. There is a significant relationship between practical


work skills/personal skills to the employability of
BSOA students in LSPU-SPCC

3. There is a significant relationship between


interpersonal skills and work readiness of BSOA
students in LSPU-SPCC
Project Description/Methodology

A survey will be conducted on the respondents


whom are the third (3RD) year and Fourth (4th) year
students of BSOA of LSPU- SPCC.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The research will use descriptive design of research


with the aim of determining the impact of OFAD 5 subject,
its employability, work readiness and the relationship
between the three variables
POPULATION AND SAMPLE

The population are students in the College of Business


Management and Accountancy in LSPU – SPCC and the
sample are the third (3rd) and fourth (4th) year BSOA
students of Laguna State Polytechnic University- San
Pablo City Campus. A sample will be chosen using
stratified proportionate sampling.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE


A survey will be conducted through an adopted
questionnaire that would be part of a research. It would be
held at the Laguna State Polytechnic University – San
Pablo City Campus where the sample consists of third (3rd)
and fourth (4th) year students of BSOA.
DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT

The questionnaire will consist of three (3) parts. The first


part aims to determine the personal demographic profile of
the respondents such as age, gender, course and year
level. On the other hand, the second part of the
questionnaire will assess the personal skills of the
respondents in terms of knowledge, writing, thinking,
speaking, use of ICT. The third part will consists of
Employability and Work Readiness or interpersonal skills
such as values and ethics, industry awareness, social
context, community engagement.
STATISTICAL TOOL

Tabular representation with corresponding percentages


would be used to describe the profile of the respondents.
On the other hand, a Likert scale would be utilized to
assess the personal /practical skills and interpersonal skills
of the respondents. Then the weighted mean would be
computed to summarize this assessment. Furthermore,
Pearson-r product correlation will be computed in
determining the relationship between impact of the subject
OFAD 5 to the Employability and Work Readiness.
SOCIO-ECONOMIC SIGNIFICANCE

This study will aid students of BSOA in Laguna State


Polytechnic University – San Pablo City Campus to be
qualified or be employed as legal secretary in some law
firms in the future or after graduation. Also be successful in
their chosen occupations to the benefit of themselves, the
workforce, the community and the economy.
