Electro-Hydraulics Control

Problem Sheet 1 Sorting Device

Problem:

Using a sorting device, very heavy articles are to be sorted

out from a conveyor belt.

By pressing the pushbutton switch, the piston rod of a

single-
acting cylinder pushes the article off the conveyor belt.
When
the pushbutton is released, the piston rod returns to its rear
end position.

Problem Sheet 2 Cutting Device

Problem:

Using a cutting device, sheets of galvanized metal are to be

cut to size.

By pressing two pushbutton switches, the cutting blade is

advanced and the sheet of paper is cut. After releasing one
or
both push button switches, the cutting blade is returned to
its
start position.

Problem Sheet 3 Tipping Device

Problem:

Using a tipping device, liquid is to be poured from a huge

vat.

By pressing both or any of the two pushbutton switches, the

vat
is tilted and the liquid is emptied. After releasing the
pushbutton switches, the vat is returned to the upright
position.

Problem Sheet 4 Punching Device

Problem:

It must be possible to operate the punching device from three sides.

A notch is to punched in the metal workpiece by a hydraulic cylinder.

The
workpiece may be fed from any one of three work stations. The
punching
operation is to be triggered when 2 sensors emit a signal. The
signaling
elements a, b and c are installed for sensing. The cylinder returns to

Problem Sheet 5 Swivel Bridge

Problem:

A swivel bridge is brought into the desired position by

means of
a double-acting cylinder. The cylinder is controlled at will by
means of two pushbuttons.

Additional requirement:
The forward stroke must be capable of being controlled from
two different points.

Problem Sheet 6 Ejecting a Workpiece

Problem:

Using a double-acting cylinder a work piece is removed and

tipped onto a conveyor belt.

The operation is to be started using a push button. An

acknowledgement signal is required when the piston is fully
extended, to ensure that the work piece has been tipped onto
the belt.

The return stroke is to be automatic.

Problem Sheet 7 Drill feed

Problem Description

The hydraulic cylinder controls the vertical feed of the drill head by pressing UP
(PB1) or DOWN (PB2). The drill head should feed quickly to the part to be drilled. It
should then drill slowly into the part when the sensor detected the object. The return
speed of the drill should be independent of the speed control. The cylinder stops if
both PB1 and PB2 are released.

Note:The operator must be able to stop the cylinder in any position.

Problem Sheet 8 Operation of a Silo

Problem Description

Crushed rock is loaded onto a truck from a large storage

silo. The operator must be able to control the flow of the rock
by opening and closing the doors on the loading chute using
pushbuttons OPEN and CLOSE buttons. It must be possible to
stop and hold doors in any position by actuating the HOLD
button.

Problem Sheet 9 Control of a Loading Platform

Problem Description
A cylinder must fully extend a platform to a loading area. Heavy engine blocks
are to be unloaded at two positions below the loading platform. To achieve
positive control of the cylinder, the intermediate positions must be hydraulically
held. Direction of the platform is controlled using UP and DOWN button. The
platform stops immediately if the HOLD button is actuated.
Also upon pressing DOWN, the platform goes down and stops at the nearest
unloading position. If in case the platform stops at middle unloading area, you
have to press again the DOWN button to go down or UP button.

Problem Sheet 10 Automatic Washing

System
Problem:

A container of washers is to be dipped in and out of the

cleaning
bath. The “START” and “STOP” for the continuous movement
is
to be achieved by actuating pushbutton each.

On actuating the “STOP” pushbutton the container should

stop at
the top (retracted position).

The speed of retraction and extension is slow and is

independent

Problem Sheet 11 Automatic Washing

System
Using Counter
Problem:

Metal components are to be cleaned in an acid bath. These

components are placed in a basket which is hung from a hook
on
a double-acting cylinder.

A single actuation of a pushbutton causes the basket to be

continuously lowered into and pulled out of the acid bath.

The sequence stops automatically after five cycles. Sensors B0

and B1 check the fully retracted and extended positions,
respectively, of the cylinder.

Problem Sheet 12 Press Control

Problem:

Steel bolts are to be pressed using a hydraulic double-acting

cylinder.

In order to meet safety requirements, a two-hand safety

control
valve is to be used. This means that to obtain a signal, the two
push buttons must be pressed within a period of 0.5 seconds.
The cylinder rod is to retract immediately when one or both
push
buttons
Positionalare released.
