LEADERSHIP STYLES

IN THE PHILIPPINES
Leadership, as concept in management
and in behavioral and social sciences, is
essentially a relationship that involves
use of power, authority and influence.
In societal or organizational setting,
culture and context inevitably define
who wields power, authority and
influence over whom.
TYPES OF LEADERSHIP
STYLES
1. Autocratic, Participative and free-re
in leaders

The way in which a leader uses


power also establishes a type of
style. Each-autocratic,
participative, and free-rein-has its
benefits and limitation. A leader
often uses all three styles over a
period of time, but one style lends
to be dominant one

power and decision making in
themselves. The leader takes full
authority and assumes full
reponsibility. Autocratic leadership
typically is negative, based on
threats and punishment. This leader
permits quick decisions but they
dislike him or her, especially if it is
extreme enough to create fear and
frustration.
B. Participative leaders- decentralize
authority. Participative decisions are
unilateral, as with the autocrat,
because they arise from consultation
with followers and participation by
them. The leader and group are
acting as a social unit. The general
trend is toward wider use of
participative practices because they

3. Coaching leadership
A coaching leader is someone who can quickly recognize
their team members' strengths, weaknesses, and motivation
to help each individual improve. This type of leader often
assists team members in setting smart goals and then
provides regular feedback with challenging projects to
promote growth. They're skilled in setting clear expectation
and creating a positive, motivating environment.
The coach leadership style is one of the most advantegeous
for employers as well as the employees they manage.
Unfortunately its often also one of the most underutilized
styles- largerly because it can be more time intensive than
other types of leadership.
4. Visionary Leadership
Visionary leaders have a powerful ability to drive
progress and ushers in period of change by
inspiring employees and earning trust for new
ideas. A visionary leader is also able to establish a
strong organizational bond. They strive to foster
confidence among direct reports and colleagues
alike.
This type of leadership is especially helpful for
small, fast growing organizatio, or larger
organization experiencing transformations or
corporate restructuring.
5. Servant Leadership
Servant leaders live by a people-first
mindset and believe that when team
members feel personally and professional
fullfilled, they're more effective and
morw likely to produce great work
regularly. Because of their emphasis, they
employee satisfaction and collaboration,
they tend to achieve higher levels of
respects. A servant leader is an excellent
leadership style for organization of any

The democratic leadership style (also
called the participative style) is a
combination of the autocratic and laissez-
faire types of leaders. A democratic leader
is someone who asks for input and
considers feedback from their team before
making decision. Because team members
feel their voice is heard and their
contributions matter, a democratic
leadership style is often credited with

The transformational leadership style is
similar to the coach style in that it focuses on
clear communication, goal-setting and
employee motivation. However, instead of

Bureaucratic leaders are similar to
autocratic leaders in that they expect
their team members to follow the rules

A transactional leader is someone who is laser
focused on performance , similar to a pacesetter.
Under this leadership style, the manager establishes
predetermined incentives-usually in the form of
monetary reward for success and disciplinary action
for failure.
