SCORE DISTRIBUTION
LISTENING
Comprises of 4 sections
Allotted 40 minutes
Each section can be either a monologue or a dialogue
Begins with a brief introduction about the situation
Candidates may skim through the questions
Candidates are required to make necessary notes
Each section is heard only once
Towards the end of listening section, candidates are given
10minutes to transfer all their answers to the answer sheet
READING
3 sections, comprising of normally 3 texts
followed by 13-14 questions.
Occassionally due to shorter texts, there can be
up to 5 texts in total.
WRITING
Consists of 2 tasks
Task 1: candidate describes a diagram, graph,
process or chart
Task 2: response to an argument

SPEAKING
Consists of 3 sections
1st section: candidate takes in form of an interview. They may be
asked about their hobbies, reasons for taking IELTS and other
general topics such as shopping, family, friends..
2nd section: candidates are given a topic booklet, 1 minute is
provided to prepare about the topic.
3rd section: this is an open discussion between the examiner and
the candidate generally relating to the same theme as in 2nd
section.
