 Rapid physical changes are seen in

the structure of an adolescent’s


body. These changes include:
1. Rapid gain in height and weight
2. Development of secondary sex
characteristics
3. Continued brain development

(15 years old)

1. Breasts develop.
2. Height and weight increases.
3. Hips and waist become more defined.
4. Menstrual cycle starts.
5. Mood changes may occur.

6. Growth of body hair in the pubic area and
underarms
7. Muscles develop and become stronger.
8. Fat tissue normally increases.
9. More active sweat and oil glands, and
body odor changes.
10. Acnes may develop.

1. Height increases.

muscle development
3. Growth of hair in pubic area,
underarms, face and more on legs.
4. Muscles become stronger.
5. Vocal chords become thicker, longer
and voice deepens.

 They frequently sleep longer.


They may be clumsier because of
growth spurts.
Girls may become overly sensitive
about their weight.
They may be self-conscious because
they are not physically developing at
the same rate with their peers.

1. They look beyond themselves and


understand others’ point of view.
2. They develop new interests and
begin to focus on career goals.
3. Logical reasoning develops (late
adolescence) where they start to
solve complicated problems.

adolescents?

They demonstrate high level of


consciousness.
They tend to become very cause-oriented.
They tend to exhibit “ justice”
orientation.
They exhibit “it can happen to me”
syndrome or also known as “personal
fable”
Emotional Changes

 Awkward feeling
 Sensitive/ conscious about many things
including what others will say about
them.
 Sometimes they feel that others do not
understand them.
 They find it difficult to communicate
their thoughts and feelings.

Affect Adolescents

1. They start spending more time with their


friends than with their families.
2. They may have more questions about
sexuality.
3. They may begin to keep a journal.
4. They tend to begin locking their bedroom
doors.
5. They may become elusive about where they
are going or with whom.
Social Changes

 They begin to embrace opinions of


people who are influential to their
lives into their own preferences,
their likes and dislikes.
Those who are secure identities
know how to fit in their
environment.
Signs of Social Changes that Affect
Adolescents

1. They become involved in multiple


hobbies or clubs.
2. They may become more
argumentative.
3. They may not want to be seen with
their parents in public.
4. They may begin to interact with their
parents.
