 Cosmetology- is the study and application of
beauty treatment.
 Branches of specialty include hairstyling, skin
care, cosmetics, manicure/pedicure, and
electrology.
 Accdg. to Reyes (1979) in order to help others
become beautiful, a cosmetologist should have
good health and personal hygiene, and be
properly groomed.
 GOOD HEALTH- is required for the successful
practice of cosmetology. Without it, a
cosmetologists cannot work efficiently nor enjoy
the pleasures of life.
 PERSONAL HYGIENE- is concerned with
intelligent care given by the individual to one’s
health by following the rules and healthful living
such as cleanliness, correct posture, exercise,
relaxation, adequate sleep, balance diet, and
wholesome thoughts
 GROOMING- is shown in one’s personal
appearance. It includes personal hygiene,
suitable or appropriate attire and neatness.
 Personal grooming is important for a positive
self-image and every effort should be made to
encourage and assist the resident to maintain a
pleasing and attractive appearance.
 Professional Grooming appearance of a person
to gain positive impression and respect in the
workplace.
PERSONAL BODY IMAGE
 is the perception that a person has of their
physical self and the thoughts and feelings that
result from that perception.
 It is made up of four aspects:
 1. Perceptual body image: how you see your body.
 2. Affective body image: how you feel about your

body
 3. Cognitive body image: how you think about
your body
 4. Behavioral body image: they way you behave
as a result of your perceptual, affective and
cognitive body image.

 In a corporate and a professional workplace,
image and impression play an important role.

 What you speak
 How you conduct yourself
 One of the most important thing is to dress

correctly at work place and for meetings. Clothes
affect mannerisms. Your clothing compliment you
for who you are.

 Apart from wearing well fit clothes, see to it that
you choose corporate colors.
 Clothes should be neatly ironed.
 Women should avoid chunky jewelry and heavy

make-up.
 Shoes should always be polished
 It is also important to smell good
 Use good perfume and deodorant
 Maintain a neat hairstyle
 Men should keep their hair short
 Women should style their hair appropriately.

 Avoid loud hairstyle. Keep it simple and elegant.
 Men should always shape your beard
 Women should regularly go for waxing,

manicure, pedicure to look neat
 Get your eyebrows cone for a defined look
 Always keep a hand sanitizer and a face wash

with you apart from make-up essentials
 Apply sanitizer and hand lotion before you go for
a meeting
 Corporate accessories are not mandatory, but
they enhance your look considerably.
 Ensure your make- up is conservative.
 Tattoos are to be avoided especially on parts of
the body that are exposed.
 Always wear a smile. Though everyone has their
own problems but the best thing you can do is to
appear like you have no issues.
 Maintain a good body posture
 Women should sit with crossed legs.

TYPES OF NAIL
ROUND NAIL
 This simple shape is perfect for short nails (even
nail biters), extending only slightly past your nail
bed and maintaining its natural shape.
SQUARE NAIL
 Square shape with the tip filed flat. Stylish,
clean-cut, low maintenance

ALMOND NAIL
 Narrow ending at a rounded point, this shape

slender.
STILLETTO/ POINTEDNAIL
 Loud, high maintenance and elongated hands
