One Way Reinforced Concrete Slab

A one-way slab is defined for purposes of this book as a

flexural member with depth small relative to other
dimensions, supporting (gravity) loads applied normal to and
directly over its surface, spanning in one direction between
parallel supports, and reinforced for flexure in that direction
only. For purposes of analysis, one-way slabs may be
restrained to any degree at the supports or may be
unrestrained. A number of Code provisions refer to “flexural
members,” which include one- and two-way slabs, beams,
girders, footings, and, where bending exists with the axial
load, walls and columns.
One Way Reinforced Concrete Slab
A. Solution (By Direct Counting)

Given Data:
Spacing of Main Reinforcement =15cm
Temperature Bar Spacing = 30cm
Size of the reinforcement = 12 mm diameter
Type of reinforcement = One way

1. Find the number of Main Reinforcements at 15. m spacing.

5.70/.15= 38 pieces
2. This 38 is the spacing between bars, and get the number of steel
bars add 1.
38 +1 = 39 pieces x 6.00 m main reinforcements

this 39 bars are the alternate straight and bend bars

3. Find the number of cut bars in between the bent bars.

5.70/.30 +1 = (20 x 2 sides) = 40 pcs. At 1.40 m.

4. Using a 6.00 meters steel bar. Divide by 1.40 to get the number of
cut in one steel bar.

6.00 m/ 1.40 = 4.28 cuts (use 4 disregarding .28)

5. Divide the result of step 3 by this 4 cuts

40/4 =10 pieces at 6.00 m. steel bars

6. Find the reinforcement: add step 2 and step 5.

39 + 10 = 49 pcs. 12 mm x 6.00 m

Two– Way Reinforced Concrete Slab
When a reinforced concrete slab is supported
by beams on all the four sides and the loads
are carried to the supports along both
directions, it is known as two way slab. In two
way slab the ratio of longer span (l) to shorter
span (b) is less than 2,
