CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS

BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
• Education has been a great necessity and tool for every
individual today.
• It is up to the teachers to inculcate learning to their
students by utilizing different methods in teaching.
• One proven effective technique is through using student-
aiding visuals and materials.
• Some still prefer the traditional way. A local yet very
common one is the usage of Manila paper and a marker.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
This study aims to discover the perspective and
behavior of Grade 11 – General Academic Strand (GAS)
students to teachers’ usage of traditional visual aids and
materials in Alaminos City National High School, school year
2017-2018.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following

questions:
• 1. How do the participants cope with their teachers’
usage of traditional visual aids?
• 2. In what way do they accept their teachers’ usage of

traditional visual aids?
• 3. How do they behave when their teacher uses

traditional visual aids?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The study would provide useful information to the:
• School Administrators
• Class Advisers
• Subject Teachers
• Parents
• Other Learning Centers and Institutions
• The Researchers Themselves
• Students
• Future Researchers.
CHAPTER 3
METHOD OF RESEARCH
AND SOURCE OF DATA
RESEARCH DESIGN
• The proposed study will utilize phenomenological study
method. The first step in this method is bracketing.
• At the final stage, the researchers will be generating a

whole phenomenological conclusion.
SAMPLING AND SAMPLING
TECHNIQUES
• Non-probability purposive sampling technique will be
applied.
• Only five (5) students in Senior High School (SHS) from the
Grade 11-GAS class will serve as the participants
DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT
• Permit to conduct a study
• Letters to conduct the study among the teachers and

permission letters to the individual
• Interview directed by an interview guide

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE
• A face-to-face interview will be held at a serene

environment,
• The interviews will be informal and open-ended and carried

out in a conversational style.
• The interviews will be both audio-recorded and written to

serve as evidences.
TREATMENTS OF DATA
• The responses of each participant will be analyzed and
observed.
• Commonality and differences of the response drawn from

the Grade 11-GAS students becomes the basis for the
analysis of the behaviors of the students.
SCOPES AND DELIMITATIONS OF
THE STUDY
• Sample or the participants used in the study
• Focus on the perspective and behavior of students when it
comes to traditional visual aids, specifically Manila paper
• Use of survey or questionnaires
• Use of phenomenological research design.
• Conduct of face-to-face interview as the primary scheme of
extracting information.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS,
CONCLUSIONS, AND
RECOMMENDATIONS
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
A. Methods of Coping to Lessons
Based on the analysis of data, five out of five students take down
notes to keep and record lessons from traditional visual aids. The
participants have different views when it comes to their difficulties in
keeping and recording lessons from traditional visual aids. Aside from
the fact that it is exhausting, it takes some time to take down notes
which divides their focus and attention from their teachers. All of the
participants stated that lessons seem to last longer in their minds when
taught with traditional visual aids. Nevertheless, all of them agreed
that they understand lessons taught using traditional aids very well and
much easier for them.
SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
B. Way of Acceptance to the Teachers’ Method
Most of them responded that they are happy and

excited when taught with such methods. When it comes
to the willingness to be taught, most of them are very
much willing since they understand it better and retain
in their minds for longer periods of time.

C. Behavior to the Teachers’ Method
The participants showed intense interest in being

taught with traditional visual aids with some showing
moderate levels. All of them tend to be all attentive
when teachers use traditional visual aids and materials
in teaching
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings of this phenomenological study,
the researchers conclude that:
1. Students have various methods to cope with their
teachers’ usage of traditional visual aids. Taking down notes
proved to be the most used and effective technique in
keeping and recording lessons and information. It would be a
lot easier to cope since students have deeper understanding
of the context and sharper memory of the lesson.
CONCLUSIONS
2. Openness is what describes the students’ acceptance
to their teachers’ usage of traditional visual aids and
materials. Students feel the happiness, excitement, and
sincerity of the teachers more if they still spend time and
effort to make traditional visual aids. Along with that is their
willingness to be taught with such methods considering how
they understand the scopes and how their teachers prove
their mastery when it comes to teaching the lesson.
CONCLUSIONS
3. The behaviors of the students show how
teachers inculcate learnings and teachings. They
give much more interest to a lesson if the teachers
themselves are eager to create ways in instilling
knowledge to them. Through traditional visual aids,
the attention of the students is directed to how
there is a lot more to know and learn about the
lesson.
RECOMMENDATIONS
A. To Parents
1. Parents should know how to help their children by
monitoring their behavior in their respective classes.
Whatever method the teacher may use, parents should see
to it that their children shows interest to it.
2. They must learn to control and discipline their children
in using modern technology as a tool for education.
Traditional means are also encouraged to be introduced.
3. Parents must find ways to let their children also
appreciate the traditional ways of teaching.
RECOMMENDATIONS
B. To Teachers
1. Teachers are advised to motivate their students
on appreciating the traditional ways of teaching.
2. Teachers are responsible for the guidance of the
students whenever they teach lessons using visual
aids.
3. Teachers should serve as an example to the
students on how to also give importance to the
traditional methods and try to balance it with the use
of modern technology.
RECOMMENDATIONS
C. To Students
1. Students are encouraged to also practice the use
of traditional visual aids and materials.
2. They must know that they should not be over-
dependent to modern technology.
3. They should learn to be good role models in giving
importance to the usage o traditional visual aids and
multimedia presentations.
RECOMMENDATIONS
D. To Future Researchers
1. They must try to discover other ways to also
encourage the use of traditional visual aids.
2. They should also aim to conduct the study, not only
in Grade 11 – GAS, but also to other grade levels, strands
and tracks of Senior High School.
3. They should also try to study the grade levels of
Junior High School.
4. They should conduct other researches concerning the
usage of traditional visual aids and materials.
