SOURCES OF WATER

• Surface Water:
 Present on the surface of the earth,( rivers, lakes, seas, streams).
 Rainfall is the major source for surface water.
• Rain Water:

 Evaporated water condensed from water in the atmosphere and falls as


drops on the earth is called rain water or rainfall.
 Some of the water is lost as run-off, and some amount of rain water
sinks down .
• Underground Water:

 Water that seeps into the ground and available as underground is called
groundwater.
 Mainly obtained from tubewells ,wells ,handpumps,springs.
DEPLETION OF WATER TABLE

Definition:
 Topmost level of underground water.
 It is available to us as groundwater
Factors responsible for depletion of water table.
 Excess use of water due to increase in population.
 Increase in industrial activities.
 Agricultural needs.
 Poor rainfall.
 Deforestation.

Water need for different purposes at a global level.
