2. M BADRUL UYUN / 16030194023
3. AHLAN RIWAHYU H / 16030194030
4. BALQIS L. ZAHRO / 16030194048
1. FUME HOOD
FUNCTIONS:
• provide personnel protection
against toxic fumes, vapors and
dust
• protection against chemical spills,
runaway reactions and fires by
acting as a physical barrier.
• industrial purposes are ducted
Maintenances:
Substitute toxic chemicals, should be
kept closed except when making
adjustments to equipment
FUNCTION:
2. FREEZE DRYER 1. used to preserve a perishable material or
make the material more convenient for
transport.
2. to allow the frozen water in the material
3. to sublime directly from the solid phase
to the gas phase.
MAINTENANCE:
1. Make sure your freeze dryer is
compatible with the eutectic
temperature of your sample(s).
2. Perform regular vacuum pump
maintenance.
3. Clean the freeze dryer after each
run.
3. FURNANCE HIGH TEMPERATURE TUBE
FUNCTION:
used to conduct syntheses and purifications of
inorganic compounds and occasionally in organic
synthesis.
MAINTENANCE:
Keep the interior of the fume hood clean and tidy.
Clean up any spills immediately.
Heating Element Coil
• The heating element must be replaced by a new
one, when it is out of order.
• Preceding the installation of a new heating
element, remove the quartz tube and
thermocouples first (take it out of the furnace).
4. GAS CHROMATROGRAPH MASS
FUNCTIONS:
1. used in analytical chemistry for separating and
analyzing compounds that can be vaporized
without decomposition.
2. testing the purity of a particular substance, or
separating the different components of a mixture
(the relative amounts of such components can also
be determined).
3. identifying a compound
4. can be used to prepare pure compounds from a
mixture.
MAINTENANCE
Non-Volatile Contamination
What To Do If It Happens
• Do not “bake out” the column
• Front End Maintenance
• clean or change the injector liner
• clean the injector
• cut off 1/2 -1 meter of the front of the column
• Turn the column around
• Solvent rinse the column
• Cut the column in half
5. OVEN FUNCTIONS:
1. sterilize biohazard waste
2. dissecting instruments or media/reagents
for aseptic assays
3. drying, heating, testing environmental
stresses, such as changes in temperature,
light and humidity
MAINTENANCE:
Do not attempt any maintenance on this
equipment unless all sources of energy are
disconnectedand locked out. Before
performing work on fans or blowers,
special caution must also be taken tosecure
the wheel.
6. SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPE
SYSTEM (SEM)
FUNCTION:
produces images of a sample by
scanning the surface with a focused
beam of electrons
MAINTENANCE:
Service engineers must be trained by the
original manufacturer of the scanning
electron microscope to perform service on a
Carl Zeiss Field Emission Scanning Electron
Microscope, Model SUPRA 50VP. The
provider must provide written evidence that
their service engineers are qualified to
perform service on Code 541’s SUPRA 50VP
Field emission Scanning Electron Microscope.
7. AUTOMATIC CHEMISORPTION
ANALYZER (CHEMBERT)
FUNCTION:
Show the catalyst characterization using
automated flow methods of analysis.
Show the titations for metal area
Dispersion determination
Determines the percent metal dispersion,
active metal surface area, size of active
particles, and surface acidity of catalyst
materials.
Maintenances:
Avoided from direct sunlight, Avoided
from direct air movement
8. AUTOMATIC SIMULTANEOUS TG/DTA
FUNCTION:
1. TG ----Provide information about physical
phenomena, such as second-order phase transitions
including
Vaporation
Sublimation
Absorption
Adsorption
Desorption
2. DTA---- provide information such on the
tranformations that have occured, such as
glass transiton
Melting and crystallization
Sublimation
The infrared heating furnace selected for quick
heating and cooling.
MAINTENANCE:
Knowledgeable, experienced and responsive global
service and support keeps your laboratory running
smoothly and efficiently.
• Expert service ensures your laboratory is backed by
the most highly qualified engineers in the industry
• Support can extend to all of your laboratory’s
maintenance, validation and qualification needs
• A complete range of training, technical support
and certification services are available, and can be
tailored to the specific needs of your laboratory
9. ULTRA LOW TEMPERATURE FREEZER
FUNCTION:
used to preserve and store blood and
several other chemicals that can only
preserved under low temperature
range. These deep freezers are
extremely different from the regular
ones, as they not only maintain a
constant temperature but they even
improve the set temperature, freezers
that are used in medical laboratory can
range around -86 degree Celsius or
less.
MAINTENANCE:
1. Ensure that internal doors within freezers are closed properly before the
main door is shut, and that both are closed as quickly as possible. This
prevents warm air entering and reduces ice build-up. Stick a sign to that
effect on the freezer door to encourage others to do the same.
2. Arrange for up-to-date inventories for each unit, detailing what goes where
inside each freezer. Stick a copy of this on the freezer door in order to
minimise searching times with the door open.
3. Keep samples in boxes and places boxes in racking, to allow for quick
retrieval.
4. Clearly label your samples, including your contact details and an ‘expiry
date’ for the sample. This will facilitate sample audits (see below), as well as
keeping your samples safe.
5. Do not overfill freezers. Samples should not block grills, vents or obstruct
the airflow to and from the coolers, as this will compromise temperature
control.
10. AUTOMATIC PURIFICATION
FUNCTION:
Performs fully automated processing of
genomic DNA, plasmid DNA, RNA, viral
nucleic acids, proteins
Maintenances:
Keep the instruments clean, place in the
room with low temperature
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTRUMENT
MAINTENANCE (General)
• Pre-disinfection
• Do not leave dirty instruments dry – put them into disinfecting solvent as soon
as possible. Pay close attention to the correct dosages and exposure times. If
you are using a thermodisinfector, skip service cycle steps 1-5.
• Rinsing
• Rinse instruments thoroughly under warm running water.
• Cleaning
• Washing machine
• Hand wash: Remove all visible dirt with warm water. Use a soft brush and
detergent
• Ultrasonic cleaner: use instrument cassettes to prevent damage
INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTRUMENT
MAINTENANCE (General)
• Dry instruments before sterilization
• Inspection and sharpening
• Sharpen, service or replace instruments, if necessary
• Packing
• Pack serviced and cleaned instruments for sterilization
• Sterilization
• Autoclave: place clean, dry and properly packed instruments into the autoclave.
• Hot-air sterilization: place clean, dry and properly packed instruments into the
hot-air sterilizer; do not fit them in too tightly; ensure that temperature is
correct (max. 180 °C/355 °F). Note! LM extraction instruments max 134 °C/273
°F.
