    Benzenes are aromatic hydrocarbons with the formula C6H6 that contain a ring of six carbon atoms joined by alternating single and double bonds. Each carbon atom in the benzene ring is sp2 hybridized. There are four ways to represent the benzene ring structure. When naming benzenes with one or more than two substituent groups, the name starts with the parent cyclohexene structure and ends with benzene instead of cyclohexene. Common substituent groups include alkyl, hydroxyl, amino, methoxy, chloro, and nitro groups.
