20/2/2018 (John locke’s works)
Question: What is his major work?
Summary: Locke also proposed a theory of property in the Two Treatises of Government. In these treatises, Locke wrote about
the birth of civil government. He thought that people can act evil and wicked, but people can self-regulate themselves and be
good. He recommended a system of checks and balances in government. He thought that the government should have three
branches: Legislative, Executive, and Federative. John Locke believed that divine right of the king is wrong and the people
should get to choose who rules by voting. Along with this, He claimed that revolting against the government, (if failed to
protect life, liberty, and property), was a right. He also stated the right to property is given to those who put hard work and
labor into it. More specifically, he views that "labor" and "ownership" are pretty much along the same lines.
John locke’s works (continue)
Another one of John Locke’s greatest works were his Letters on Toleration. In these letters, He had two main arguments. One
of these arguments was that a church should not have any to right to persecute anyone. Natural Rights should always remain
the way they are. Locke stated that the worst a church should be allowed to do is to expel the person from the church if that
person limits their power by the person not believing. His other argument was that the church can't be certain that their own
ways of teachers are the absolute truth. He believed that faith is mysterious and unknown so no man should be punished for
open-mindedness.
