A PLOT
EXPOSITION
On a gloomy day of January, the
streets stretched bare and empty. A
E boy who had been to the fountain said
D
C “Dursun Agha is dead!” – he was a
B water carrier with a wife and 2
A
children. He got three kurush for every
A
trip. One trip meant 2 cans of water. He
died suddenly when he slipped and hit
his head on the stone bowl. When
Gulnaz learned the news, she froze and
thought this could be a punishment for
EXPOSITION
her cheating – using up a little extra
water of the household she worked for
E as a charwoman so her husband can
D
C earn more. She thought on how to
B support the needs of their children
A
when all Dursun Agha had left was only
A
his 2 cans and a pole. In an instant, all
had changed. Now there was no
difference between using much or little
water. She no more wanted to see or
hear it.
