Key-Technologies for Highly Available FCS

Extremely low failure rate design of each hardware

Self-diagnosis function.
– Each portion is checked just before working.
– If some abnormalities are detected, the module set its status flag as FALSE

Dual hardware configuration.

– Each of dual hardware components is checking the status flags of the partner
hardware through backplane bus

Real-time abnormality detecting

Seamless switching.
– Immediately switching from the active module to the stand-by module without
affecting the input / output for process.

Hot swapping
– Abnormal modules can be removed and spare modules can be inserted instead
without stopping any other input/output or any other hardware.

Control Function

Basic Control function is prepared in the elements called “Function Block”

– Almost 200 types of function blocks.
– Regulatory Control blocks, Sequence Control Blocks, Arithmetic blocks, etc.
– Any type of function blocks can work in a controller at the same time
– Control logics are generated by the combination of function blocks

The processing of all the function blocks are executed periodically

– The processing period can be specified for each function block
• 1-sec, 500-msec, 250-msec, 100-msec, and 50-msec can be chosen

Isolation Type

Three isolation types of modules can be chosen

– Channel Isolation type
• System-to-field isolated, channel-to-channel isolated
• High noise immunity

– System/Field Isolation type

• System-to-field isolated, channel-to-channel non-isolated
• It is avoided the field noise affects the system components

– Non-isolated type
• Highest channel density
• Care for noise is necessary for field wiring
• Less-cost

Connection Types of Field Wiring
Three types of field connection can be chosen
– Direct wiring for the Weidmueller (pressure clamp) terminals
– Connect through the field terminal assemblies (Terminal boards) or the signal
conditioners
• Dedicated system connection cables are also needed.
– Connect with MIL cables

Each module has three types of front assembly

to choose the field connection type
– Terminal board for Foundation Fieldbus module is available
– Redundant configuration is available except MIL cable connection

Quick & High-quality Engineering
The shutdown time for newly plant construction or reconstruction should
be minimum
– The longer time links the larger financial disadvantage

CENTUM VP provides the following configuration environment

– Total Project management.
– Reuse of configuration data
• This is available between several stations or between several plants.
– Several engineers can work at the same time.
– On-line maintenance.
– DCS Tag equalization for Historian

Benefits of Project Management.

The application of all stations in a system is contained in one database.

– At least 1 PC is required to generate whole over a system.
• You don’t have to create same or similar graphics for all the HMIs.
– One PC (one configuration software) can handle several projects.
– You can reuse the application database of a plant to another plant by a
project, by a station, by a graphic, by a control logic.
• This shortens the configuration time.
• This makes the configuration quality excellent
because the copy source has been working well in an actual plant.
– Optimum management of application data is available.

Reuse of Configuration Asset (Application)
Graphics can be re-used for other graphics,
on another HIS, or on the HIS in different projects.

Control application can be re-used for others in the controller,

in different controllers in the project or in another project.

Advanced Debugging

The delivery time of controller and construction time of field

wiring is much longer than the delivery time of PC.
– If you can advance your configuration work only with PC,
you can shorten your total configuration time.
– If you can advance your debugging work without actually connecting
the controllers and field devices,
you can shorten your total configuration time.

Yokogawa provides the excellent debug functions.

On-line maintenance.

For more productive plant operation,

online maintenance of the control application or HMI application is
sometimes required.
– Application modification without stopping the controller.
– Application modification without affecting the rest of other application

CENTUM VP provides the “On-line maintenance” function to meet above

needs.
