that Maria makes goes towards her family. She works at a flower plantation and de-
thorning flowers. The working conditions are very poor and they are treated badly.
Maria soon quits her job despite her families disapproval. She then
soon discovers she is pregnant by her boyfriend who suggests that they get married.
Maria declines because she does not feel the love for him anymore or for
her so they soon break up. Maria then travels to Bogota to try find herself a new job
but she is then offered a job to be a drug mule and despite the risky job, Maria
is desperate and due to the amount of money that she would receive, Maria takes
the job. For this job, Maria had to swallow a huge amount of wrapped pellets of
drugs and had to fly to New York with her friend Blanca, who had also got a job as a
drug mule and Lucy, who had took the dangerous job before.
Maria is then caught by U.S. customs who are very suspicious after finding she
has a lot of money with her and wanting to make a surprise visit to her
"sister" she says she hasnt seen in "years". She tells the customs that a friend
paid for the ticket. They are still not convinced and want her to have an X-ray
but due to her pregnancy she can't have one and is then released. Two
men that are involved in the job collect Maria, Blanca and Lucy and are then
brought to a hotel room and held there until they give all the drug pallets.
Lucy suddenly falls ill. Maria witnesses them carrying Lucy out of the hotel
room and she sees blood stains in the bathtub unknown to the two
men. Maria then becomes really scared and convinces Blanca to escape with
her while the two men are gone. They leave with the drugs they had.
Maria has nowhere to sleep and goes to Lucy's sister's house but doesn't
reveal to her that Lucy is dead. Blanca soon joins her there. Eventually the
sister unexpectedly hears of their involvement in her sister's death and
throws them out. Blanca and Maria make an agreement to return the drugs
to the men and receive their money. Maria uses some of her drug money to
send Lucy's body home to Colombia for a proper burial. Maria and Blanca are
ready to board the plane back to Colombia when Maria decides to stay in the
United States. Blanca then returns back to Colombia without Maria.
