     SAP was awarded Industry Week’s Best Managed

    Companies in 1999.
     The power of SAP software lies in real-time
    integration, linking a company’s business
    processes and applications, and supporting
    immediate responses to change throughout
    the organization on a departmental,
    divisional or global scale.
     It also has applications that support multiple

    currencies, automatic-handling of country-


    specific import/export, tax, legal and
    language requirements.
     SAP R/3 is the enterprise software produced by SAP AG.

     It is an enterprise-wide information system designed to


    coordinate all the resources, information, and activities
    needed to complete business processes such as order
    fulfillment or billing and so on.

     Simplify business transaction processing and thus work


    load is reduced.
     The first version of SAP's enterprise software was a
    financial Accounting system named SAP R/1.

     In 1970, SAP R/2 was in a mainframe based business


    application software suite, with multi-currency and
    multi-language capabilities built in.

     With the advent of distributed client–server computing


    SAP AG brought out a client–server version of the
    software called SAP R/3 .
     The "R" was for "Real-time data processing" and 3
    was for 3-tier. This new architecture is compatible with
    multiple platforms and operating systems, such
    as Microsoft Windows or UNIX.

     SAP R/3 was officially launched on 6 July 1992. It was


    renamed SAP ERP and later again renamed SAP
    ECC (ERP Central Component).

     The
    newest version of the suite is My SAP 2007 or SAP
    ECC 7.0.

    SAP based the architecture of R/3 on a three-tier
    client/server model.

     The presentation server is actually a program named sapgui.exe.

     To start it, the user double-clicks on an icon.

     When started, the presentation server displays the R/3 menus within a
    window. This window is commonly known as the SAPGUI, or the
    user interface.

     The interface accepts input from the user in the form of keystrokes,
    mouse-clicks, and function keys, and sends these requests to the
    application server to be processed.

     The application server sends the results back to the SAPGUI which
    then formats the output for display to the user.
     An application server is a executables that collectively interpret the
    ABAP/4 (Advanced Business Application Programming / 4th
    Generation) programs and manage the input and output for them. 

     Each application server has a profile that specifies its characteristics


    when it starts up and while it is running. For example, an application
    server profile specifies:
    • Number of processes and their types
    • Amount of memory each process may use
    • Length of time a user is inactive before being automatically
    logged off.

     The Application layer consists of one or more application servers and


    a message server. Each application server contains a set of services
    used to run the R/3 system.

     The SAPGUI icon will
    be installed on your desktop 
    If the SAP User Menu screen is not your default menu, you can
    reset it:
     Follow the menu path: System >> User profile >> Own data.

     Click on the Defaults tab.

     Blank out the Start Menu field.

     Click Back button.


     A transaction code is a four-character command that tells the
    system location of a task. Each SAP screen has a unique
    transaction code. Eg.: me51,zstm
    Using a Transaction Code:
    1. Place the cursor in the Command field.
    2. Type /n to end the current task, followed by the transaction
    code.
    For example, to start creating a requisition type /nme51.
    3. Press the Enter/Return key.

     Enter a requisition number.
     Click the Enter button  .
     Position the cursor in the top
    line between the Material and
    Short text columns until it turns
    into a double-headed arrow.
     Slide the column headings to the
    left edge of the Material column.
    The Material column
    disappears.
     Click on the Table Setting
    button 
     Type in the layout name in
    the Variant field; for
    example, material.

     Click the Create button.


     Log Off
    (Exit SAP)
     Click the Exit button  on the Toolbar or follow the menu
    path: System >> Logoff.
      In the Logoff pad click Yes.
     Follow the menu path: Connection >> Exit.
