The Invaders

Completion of Anglo-Saxon England describes the process to change the language

and culture of the majority of Romano-British English to German. Germanic-
speakers in England, away from diverse origins, eventually developing a common
cultural identity such as Anglo-Saxon. This process occurs from mid 5 to the
beginning of the 7th century, following the end of Roman rule in Britain around
the year 410. The settlement followed by the formation of the Anglo-Saxon
kingdoms in the south and east of England, followed by other modern Britain.

As the Romans departed, so did the source of any major written historical data.
For the rest of the fifth century and early sixth century, England entered what is
now referred to as a period of time known as the Dark Ages.
Government and society

The Anglo-Saxon kingdoms were hierarchical societies, each based on ties of

allegiance between powerful lords and their immediate followers.[67] At the top of
the social structure was the king, who stood above many of the normal processes
of Anglo-Saxon life and whose household had special privileges and protection.[68]
Beneath the king were thegns, nobles, the more powerful of which maintained
their own courts and were termed ealdormen.[69] The relationship between kings
and their nobles was bound up with military symbolism and the ritual exchange of
weapons and armour.[70] Freemen, called churls, formed the next level of society,
often holding land in their own right or controlling businesses in the towns.[71]
Geburs, peasants who worked land belonging to a thegn, formed a lower class
still.[72] The very lowest class were slaves, who could be bought and sold and who
held only minimal rights.
Christianity: the partnership of church and
state
Church and state, concept, largely Christian, that religious and political power in society
distinctly different, although both claim the loyalty of the people.

A brief treatment of church and state the following. For full treatment, see Christianity: Church
and state.

Before the advent of Christianity, religion and politics separate command is not clear in most
civilizations. People worship the gods of the particular country in which they live, the religion in
such cases be but the state department. In the case of the Jews, the Bible revealed the law is the
Law of Israel. The Christian concept of the secular and the spiritual founded on the words of
Jesus: "Render to Caesar the things to Caesar, and to God the things of God" (Mark 12:17). Two
different, but not totally separate spheres of life and human activity to be distinguished;
Therefore, the theory of two powers came to form the basis of thought and Christianity from the
earliest times.
The viking

The Vikings had recognised some years earlier that whilst they enjoyed all of that looting and
pillaging, just the threat of it was, in most instances, sufficient to extort money from their prey.
The Viking Age is the period from the late 8th century to the mid 11th century in European
history, especially the history of Northern Europe and Scandinavia, following the German Iron
Age. This is the period in history when the Scandinavian Vikings explored Europe by sea and
river for trade, raids, colonization and conquest. In this period, the Vikings settled in Norse
Greenland, Newfoundland, and now the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Norway, Scotland, England,
Ireland, Netherlands, Germany, Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey. Although tourists Viking and
occupiers seen at many points in history as the robber brutal, many historical documents indicate
that their invasion of other countries is retaliation in response to violations of tribal lands by
Christian missionaries, and perhaps with the Wars Saxon demanded by Charlemagne and
relatives to south is motivated by overpopulation, trade injustice and the lack of viable
agricultural land in their homeland. [Citation needed] Information about the Viking Age, mostly
taken from what is written about Viking by their enemies, and the main source of archeology,
which is supplied by secondary sources such as the Icelandic Sagas.
Who should be king?

This adaptation of the famous short story by Rudyard Kipling tells the
story of Daniel Dravot and Peachy Carnahan, two ex-soldiers in
India when it was under British rule. They decide that the country is
too small for them, so they head off to Kafiristan in order to become
Kings in their own right. Kipling is seen as a character that was there
at the beginning, and at the end of this glorious tale.
