DEFINTION
Pedophile is a sexual deviation in which an adult is

sexually attracted to a prepubescent child.
Pedophilia is considered a paraphilia, an "abnormal or
unnatural attraction." Pedophilia is defined as the fantasy
or act of sexual activity or feeling towards prepubescent
children. Pedophiles are usually men, and can be
attracted to either or both sexes. How well they relate to
adults of the opposite sex varies.
Involves sexual activity by an adult with a prepubescent
child. Some individuals prefer females, usually 8 to 10year-olds. Those attracted to males usually prefer
slightly older children. Some prefer both sexes. While
some are sexually attracted only to children, others also
are sometimes attracted to adults.
HOW TO RECOGNISE PEDOPHILE?

Stage 1: Identifying a Possible Victim
Although pedophiles differ in their type regarding age, appearance and
gender, all pedophiles will look for a victim who seems in some way
vulnerable.
Stage 2: Collecting Information
The next step is for the pedophile to collect as much information on the
targeted victim as possible. This is most commonly done through casual
conversations with both the child and the parents or caretaker.
Stage 3: Filling a Need
Once the individual has the information he needs, he then becomes part of the
childs life by filling a need. If the victim is poor, for example, the pedophile
will provide him/her with expensive toys. If the victim is lonely, the pedophile
will act as a friend.
Stage 4: Lowering Inhibitions
The pedophile will then start to lower the childs inhibitions concerning sexual
matters. He may come up with games or activities that involve getting
undressed, make sexual comments or show the child pornographic images or
pictures.
Stage 5: Initiating the Abuse
At this final stage, the pedophile begins to sexually abuse the child.

Found that sexual interest in children aged 12 or younger was reported by 0.2%
of the sample.
Sexual interest in children aged 15 or younger was reported by 3.3%.
Participants reporting sexual interest in children aged 15 or younger were
younger, reported stronger sexual desire, and had experienced more childhood
sexual and nonsexual abuse.
The present study is the first to give a population-based estimate of the incidence
of sexual interest in children among adult men.
The 12-month incidence of sexual interest in children below the age of 16 years is
roughly comparable to the one-year incidence of major depression or the lifetime
prevalence of transvestitic fetishism

Pedophiles and the Role of Internet

The development of the Internet and computer-mediated communications has fostered
the growth of a wide range of deviant sexual behaviors along with deviant subcultures
that support and approve of these behaviors.
Pedophilia and the creation and distribution of child pornography have significant
negative ramifications for victims.

A growing literature has examined the function of the Internet for child pornography
distribution, social networks of pedophiles, and tactics of child solicitation.

Few, however, have explored the utility of the Internet to develop a subculture of
pedophiles and its role in fostering attitudes and justifications for relationships with
children
