SANITARY
FITTINGS: The appliance used for collection and discharge of solid or waster matter is termed as sanitary
fittings.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF SANITARY FITTINGS:
WASH BASIN
SINK
FLUSHING CISTERN
BATH TUB
URINAL
WATER CLOSET
URINALS
Falls under the category of soil appliance.
Discharge from urinals is connected to soil pipe either directly or through a trap provided with metal or bass
domed shaped removable grating.
TYPES OF URINALS
Bowl type
Slab or stall type
Bowl type:-
This is one piece construction with integral flushing box rim having 12 holes suitably distributed for proper
flushing.
The urinals has an outlet horn at bottom for connecting to the trap and an outlet pipe.
Slab or stall type: Urinal is manufactured either as a single unit or as a range of two or more unit .
In single unit minimum width of stall should be 75 cm.
Flushing of urine is normally carried out through automatic flushing cistern which operates at regular
intervals 10-15 minutes.
Discharge from the series of stalls in a row is usually carried through a glazed semi circular drain which
has a sharp fall towards the trap from where it is discharged into the soil pipe.
BATH TUB
WATER CLOSETS
Pan has inbuilt flushing rim having number of holes through which the flushing water from the cistern is
discharged.
Flushing cistern is normally kept 1.8-2m above the floor level .
Contents of the pan are removed by the gravity flush of water.
European type: This type of WC is used in sitting position over a plastic seat hinged to the appliance.
Pedestal type of appliance with the pan and trap in a single piece .
Pan is shaped in the form of a short inverted cone with an almost vertical back and providing minimum
fouling area.
For high level type cistern is installed at a height of 1.8-2m from floor.
For low level type cistern is installed at a height of 30cm just above the level of WC seat.
Anglo Indian type: This type of WC can be used both in squatting position as well as in sitting position.
Top of a WC pan is flared out to provide for foot rest to permit it to be used in squatting position.
In case of European type WC ,the plastic seat hinged to the closet is turned on the top of the pan to
used it in sitting position.
