Mary, Queen of Scots (Mary Stuart), Elizabeths cousin/ half sister was forced to abdicate her throne and took refuge to Elizabeth. Later on, she becomes a threat to Elizabeths throne and was beheaded in 1587.

limited the power of the kings. 1. Monarch could not collect taxes without the Parliaments consent. 2. Civilians could not be forced to provide food and shelter for the soldiers 3. Military law could not imposed in time of peace. 4. No person could be imprisoned except upon a specific charge.

His reign is known as the Merry Monarch, charismatic leader and popular with his subjects, however, there were also religious divisions in his period.
