IIM Lucknow is proud to introduce the 3rd batch The General Management Programme for Defence Officers structured by IIM Lucknow is a very prestigious course, which will provide them with an opportunity to transit to the Corporate sector, albeit to begin the second career with confidence and positive mindset. These officers already are managers of the highest norm. The need was to grasp the nuances of the Corporate Sector and the outside world which is being delivered by means of this Programme. While technology can aid the process to a certain extent, it is the presence of well trained and motivated manpower managing the resources which would count in producing products efficiently and at optimum cost.

"Without tools, learning is incomplete. While any institute can claim excellence, only IIM Lucknow can stand by its claim of being one of the premier institutes of management studies in the region. This institute provides its students and faculty all the requisite facilities to help in their quest for knowledge. The sprawling campus of the Institute is of about 200 acres of land. Set amidst a sprawling area of 200 acres, IIM Luck now is a fully residential institute, offering housing capabilities for 500 students and 75 faculties. "Gyanodaya"- the home of learning. The library of IIM Lucknow characterizes what the institute stands for - accessibility, vision and excellence. This spacious 30,000 square foot two storied library is a repository of knowledge both historical and current. Students can use this 24 hr facility to cement the knowledge they have gained by gaining an insight of its implementation. The Computer Centre is housed in a spacious 15,000 sq. ft., two floored, air conditioned, centrally located and functionally designed building and is equipped with the state-of-the-art computing resources to cater to the needs of the academic as well as the administrative activities of the Institute. All buildings including the hostels, i.e the Faculty Block, the Academic Block, the Computer Centre and the Library are connected through a fast ethernet-switched network.

Defence officers gear up for corporate Lucknow: The Indian Institute of Management-Lucknow (IIM-L) On Tuesday 18 Feb 2008 started a sixmonth special management programme for defence officers of India. Sixty-five officers from the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force have been enrolled for the programme. They have the tenacity and experience of managing people and situations beyond the imagination of many of us. They surely have it in them to leave mark on corporate India, P.P. Dasgupta, vice president (human resources), Raymond Limited, said. TIMES NEWS NETWORK 19 FEB 2008 Army officers set to capture corporate world Lucknow: With a mission to 'capture' the corporate world, as many as 65 officers of the Indian armed forces on Tuesday set out on a journey to equip themselves with the 'weaponry' required to accomplish their task. Selected for the general management programme (GMP) for the defence officers, these dare devils will stay in the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow, (IIM-L) for the next six months to pursue the MBA programme. This will prepare them for a new battlefield careers in the corporate sector after their retirement. Started at the initiative of directorate resettlement,

ministry of defence, the two-year business administration postgraduate programme (PGP) has been encapsulated by IIM-L experts into a six-month specially designed MBA certificate programme. Drawn from various divisions of navy, army and air force, the 65-strong contingent which arrived at IIM-L campus this year included nine female officers. This is the third GMP programme of IIML. "We have condensed the regular two-year management programme into an intensive six-month course to enable officers of the defence services to get gainful employment in the industry after they step out of the uniformed service." "The exercise is bound to be mutually beneficial to both the officers undergoing this course as well as to the corporate houses where they take up employment as they already have rich experience in man management and logistics; all we are required to do at the IIM here is to equip them with certain management skills typical to the corporate sector," he added. 7
