    Lignite Coal Lignite Coal is the softest of four types of coal. It is brownish in color, very crumbly and primarily used for the generation of electricity. Because of its color, its often preferred as brown coal. Lignite is result of millions of tons of the plants and trees that decayed in a swampy atmosphere about 50 - 70 million years ago. In simple terms, lignite is coal. The materials on the top of the lignite deposits are called in Balochistan as Chora. The heating value of lignite is approximately 4,000 8000 BTUs. In Kingri Coal field it is found very common. Usually its usage in Pakistan is in fertilizer companies. Thermal use yet not started in the region.

    Lignite is Abundant and Accessible from Balochistan Lignite is more accessible than other types of coal because lignite veins are located relatively near the surface, eliminating the need for underground excavation in tunnels. Surface mining also eliminates the risk of methane or carbon monoxide buildup, a primary safety concern in underground mining. Lignite mining is totally without risk. As lignite mines are excavated, there is some risk that the pits tall, sloped earthen walls could collapse after a heavy rain. However, such incidents are extremely rare, in part because the industry has developed constant

    Lignite-Generated Electricity is Low-Cost Lignite-based power plants in the whole world generate electricity at a cost significantly below that of all coal and natural gas power plants.

    Lignite Uses About 79 percent of lignite coal is used to generate electricity, 13.5 percent is used to generate synthetic natural gas, and 7.5 percent is used to produce fertilizer products (anhydrous ammonia & ammonium sulfate) in the whole world. A very small percentage is used as home heating fuel, for use as fertilizer and for use as oil well drilling mud. In Pakistan it is only used In fertilizer industry.
