Five (5) incidents, or 71%, involved forced entry. Three (3) incidents, or 43%, were discovered on a Wednesday. Comments/Recommendations: Historically, HPD has an average of 19 burglaries during the month of January with a current threshold of 15 to 23. This January, we were well under the threshold with 7 reported burglaries. The zone containing the highest number of burglaries was East 3 with three (3), or 43%. The majority of the burglary incidents in January involved forced entry. Citizens should be encouraged to report any suspicious vehicles or persons in their neighborhoods. Public announcements could be made, via media or social networking sources, to inform residents about the importance of keeping doors, windows and garages locked at all times. Based on the most common days and hours of occurrence, patrols should be increased in the D1, D2 and D3 residential and commercial areas on Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout all hours of the day. Forecast for February: The average number of burglaries for the month of February is 16 plus or minus 5. By the end of February, there is a 68% chance HPD will have received between 11 and 21 reported burglaries. Prepared by: Laura Rooks, Crime Analyst Submitted to: Philip K. Potter, Chief of Police
