QDR® 4500 C/W TO DELPHI

UPGRADE

QDR-4500 C/W to Delphi Upgrade Procedure

Note 1: Do NOT install any new hardware until the software has been upgraded to
Delphi V11.1.
Note 2: If the system being upgraded is running V9 of QDR software, it must be
upgraded to QDR for Windows V10.0 (or V11.1) first, and then upgraded
to Delphi V11.1(refer to 080-0797 - QDR for Windows Install Instructions,
080-0791 Windows 98 Installation Instructions, and 080-0799 QDR for
Windows Upgrade Instructions).

General: The procedure for upgrading a QDR for Windows-based QDR-4500 C or W


instrument to Delphi consists of the following process:

Upgrade PC
• Archive all unarchived scans on the system.
• Perform a System Backup.
• Install the Expansion I/O Port Card (LPT2:) and Kodak Printer.
• Install the Kodak 1200 Printer Driver Software
• Run the Upgrade Tool Disk provided in the upgrade kit.
• Load the Delphi Software.

Upgrade Scanner
• Replace the Detector Assembly and A/D Board with the 128-Channel Detector
Assembly.
• Replace the cable from the C-Arm Interface Board to the A/D Board with a new cable
that will connect the C-Arm Interface Board directly to the 128-Channel Detector
Assembly.
• Replace the fixed Aperture Plate with the Delphi Aperture Assembly.
• Perform an Aperture Calibration per the instructions in the Alignment and Calibration
section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform the Beam Alignment procedure per the instructions in the Alignment and
Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform the Laser Alignment procedure per the instructions in the Alignment and
Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform the A/D Gain procedure per the instructions in the Alignment and
Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform the Detector Flattening procedure per the instructions in the Alignment and
Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform the Table Top Radiographic Uniformity procedure per the instructions in the
Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform a Field Service Calibration (Area, BMC, and BMD) per the instructions in
the Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual.
• Perform system backup.
• Add new labels to the system.
• Fill out and return FDA Form 2579.

1 System Backup
1. Place a 3.5” floppy disk (or a Superdisk, if applicable) in the a: disk drive.
2. From the QDR for Windows main screen, select Backup|System Backup.
3. The QDR System Backup window will now appear with backup location and
backup file name filled in. Click the OK button.
4. A new window will appear that tells you how many disks will be required for the
system backup. When you have obtained the number requested, click the OK
button. (Note: The number of disks required may be less than the requested
number.)
5. The backup will now occur. You will be prompted for any additional disks
required.
6. A window will appear indicating completion of the backup. Click the OK button.

2 Installing the ISA Expansion I/O Port Card (LPT2:)


1. Turn off the PC.
2. Remove the four screws that retain the cover.
3. Check the jumper settings on the Expansion I/O Port card. The jumpers should
be set to IRQ 5 and an address of 0278H.
4. Locate an empty ISA (black) slot.
5. Insert the Expansion I/O Port card in the empty ISA slot.
6. Replace and secure the PC cover.
7. Attach the appropriate end of the supplied printer cable to the connector at the
rear of the PC.
8. Attach the other end of the cable to the Kodak 1200 Printer.
9. Boot the PC.
10. From the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select
Properties from the popup menu.

11. In the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab.
12. In the list box, click on the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT).
13. Ensure that there is a listing: Line Printer (LPT2). If this line exists, then
proceed to Section 3: Installing the Kodak 1200 Printer Driver. If the line does
not exist, continue to step 14.
14. At the bottom of the System Properties window, click the OK button.
15. On the Windows Desktop, double-click on the My Computer icon.
16. In the My Computer window, double-click on the Control Panel icon.
17. In the Control Panel window, double-click on the Add New Hardware icon.
18. You will now be in the Add New Hardware Wizard. Click the Next > button.
19. The wizard will now inform you that it will search for new plug and play
devices. Click the Next > button.
20. A list of devices found will now be displayed. Normally, the new LPT port will
NOT be in this list. Select No the device isn’t in the list and click the Next
> button.
21. At the next window, select No, I want to select hardware from a list and
click the Next > button.
22. The next window will display a list of hardware types. Select Ports (COM &
LPT) and click the Next > button.
23. In the Models list box of next window, select Printer Port and click the Next >
button.
24. The wizard will now display the address range it will use for the new port. This
will normally be a value of 03BC – 03BE. You will be changing this value in
the following steps. Click the Next > button.
25. In the final window of the Add Hardware Wizard, click the Finish button.
26. Close the Control Panel window by clicking the ⌧ in the upper right corner of
the window.
27. From the Windows Desktop, right-click the My Computer icon and select
Properties from the popup menu.
28. In the System Properties window, select the Device Manager tab.
29. In the list box, click on the + sign next to Ports (COM & LPT).
30. Select Line Printer (LPT2) by clicking on it and then click the Properties
button.
31. Select the Resources tab in the next window.
32. Click on the Input/Output Range in the list box and then click the Change
Settings… button. You may need to uncheck the Use automatic settings
checkbox to enable the button.
33. In the Change Settings dialog box, change the range to 0278 – 027A.
34. Click the OK button and close any open windows.
35. You may now proceed to the next section: Installing the Kodak 1200 Printer
Driver V2.2.

3 Installing the Lava PCI Expansion I/O Port Card (LPT2:)


1. Turn off the PC.
2. Remove the four screws that retain the cover.

3. Locate an empty PCI (white) slot.
4. Insert the LAVA PCI Expansion I/O Port card in the empty PCI slot.
5. Replace and secure the PC cover.
6. Attach the appropriate end of the supplied printer cable to the connector at the
rear of the PC.
7. Attach the other end of the cable to the Kodak 1200 Printer.
8. Boot the PC.
9. Windows98 will find the board during bootup. When requested by Windows,
insert the LAVA Installation Disk in the A:\ drive and follow the on-screen
instructions.

1. Connect the printer to Port #2 on the daughter board. Connect the power to the
printer.
2. Load paper into the printer.
3. Insert the QDR for Windows V11.1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
4. From the windows 98 screen, select Start|Run and then click the Browse
button.
5. Double-click the My Computer icon, then select drive D:\ (or E:\).
6. Double-click Drivers|Printers|Kodak-Dmi2_2 folder and click on Setup.
7. Select OK, then OK.

8. Follow the on-screen instructions and, when asked, select Kodak 1200 and
LPT2 .
9. Once the software is loaded, you will get a message indicating that the software
has been removed. This is an erroneous message. Click the OK button and the
PC will reboot.
10.The new driver has now been loaded.
10. Remove the CD from the drive.

5 Running the Upgrade Tool Disk


1. From the QDR for Windows main menu, click the Exit button.
2. In the Exit QDR System window, select Exit QDR without shutdown and
click the OK button.
3. Insert the Upgrade Tool Disk in the floppy disk drive.
4. Select Start|Run, type in a:\setup.exe and click the OK button.
5. At the “Setup program is a tool for the QDR 4500 C/W to DELPHI C/W
upgrade” screen. Click Yes.
6. At the “The tool disk has been updated for DELPHI C” screen, click OK.
7. At “Install Ver 11.1 System Software” screen, click OK.

6 Loading Delphi Software


1. Place the QDR for Windows V11.1 CDROM in the CDROM drive.

2. Select Start|Run, type in d:\setup.exe (the CDROM drive may be drive letter
e: on some systems) and click the OK button.
3. Click the Next button at the Welcome window.
4. Click OK.
5. Click the Yes button at the Software License Agreement window or click OK
button.
6. Confirm the appropriate instrument type (Delphi C or Delphi W at the Select
QDR Machine Type window then click the OK button if required.
7. At the Serial Number window, confirm the instrument serial number (without a
letter extension) and click the Next button if required.
8. At the Choose Destination Location window, click the Next button if required.
9. The QDR for Windows software will now be loaded.
10. Once software loading is complete, the Setup Complete window will appear
asking if you wish to restart you PC now or later. Select the No, I will restart
my computer later option and click the Finish button.
11. You will now be returned to the Windows98 desktop.
12. Select Start|Shutdown…|Shutdown and click the OK button.
13. Turn off the computer.

7 Detector and DAS Cable Replacement

1. Power down the system.


2. Remove and retain the 10 screws holding the C-Arm cover and then remove the
cover.
3. Remove and retain the 2 screws holding the Tank cover and remove the cover.
4. Remove and retain the 4 screws holding the C-Arm Interface Board Cover and
remove the cover.
5. Remove the backing from the double-sided sticky tape on the lead strip supplied with
the upgrade kit.
6. Refer to the figure below and attach the lead strip to the inside of the C-Arm cover.

7. In the upper C-Arm, remove and retain the four 3/8” nuts that hold down the Detector
Assembly.
8. Disconnect the following cables:
• Laser Power (2-wire Molex Connector)
• JP1 on the A/D Board
• JP7 on the Detector Assembly
• JP8 on the Detector Assembly
9. Remove and retain the Detector Assembly Alignment Screw Assembly.
10. Install the new Detector Assembly.
11. Reinstall the nuts and the Alignment Screw Assembly removed in steps 4. and 6. Do
not tighten the nuts since a Beam Alignment will be performed later in this
procedure.
12. Reconnect Laser power.
13. Disconnect the cable from connector JP10 on the C-Arm PCB. Attach the new DAS
Communication Cable provided with the upgrade kit to the cable removed from JP10
using tiewraps or electrical tape and fish the new cable up through the C-Arm to the
Detector Assembly.
14. Connect the end of the cable to P1 On the Detector Assembly.
15. Connect the other end to JP10 on the C-Arm Interface Board.
16. Remove the A/D Converter Board.

X-Ray Controller Assembly

1. Remove the X-Ray Controller Assembly (4 screws) and disconnect the attached
cables and ground wires.
2. Slowly move the table as far to the rear of the instrument as possible to gain the
best access to the Aperture Plate.
3. Remove and retain the four screws holding the Aperture Plate to the top of the
Filter Drum Assembly and remove the Aperture Plate.
4. Place the new Aperture Assembly on the Filter Drum Assembly with the Aperture
Motor towards you.
5. Use the two short #6 screws provided to hold down the front of the Aperture
Assembly to the Filter Drum. (See Figure below) Note: You may need to move
the Aperture Plate to gain access to the screw holes.
6. Use the two long #6 screws provided to hold down the rear of the Aperture
Assembly to the Filter Drum. (See Figure below) Note: You may need to move
the Aperture Plate to gain access to the screw holes.
7. Attach the Aperture Motor Support Bracket to the front of the Filter Drum
Assembly using the two #4 screws and hardware.

8. Route the Aperture Assembly Cable through the access hole behind the Filter
Drum Assembly to the C-Arm Interface Board.
9. Plug the cable into JP5 on the C-Arm Interface Board.
10. Reinstall the X-Ray Controller.
11. Power on the instrument.

9 Aperture Calibration
Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the Aperture Calibration.

10 Beam Alignment
Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the Beam Alignment Procedure. It is important to note that only the
Detector Assembly will need to be moved. The Aperture Assembly will not have
been moved during this upgrade procedure.

11 Laser Alignment
Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the Laser Positioning procedure.

12 A/D Gain
Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the A/D Gain Control procedure.

13 Detector Flattening
Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the Detector Flattening procedure.

14 Table Top Radiographic Uniformity


Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform the Table Top Radiographic Uniformity procedure.

15 Field Service Calibration


Referring to Alignment and Calibration section of the Delphi Technical Manual,
perform a full Field Service Calibration (Area, BMC, and BMD) of the instrument.

16 System Backup
Perform another system backup.

17 Add Labels
Add the following labels to the system:
1. Apply the aperture label provided (P/N 280-0292) to the back of the C-arm next
to the other labels.
2. Apply the upgrade label provided (P/N 280-0331) to the base frame next to the
main label.
3. Using a pen (preferably black ink), fill in the “Date of Mfg.” with the date the
upgrade was completed.
