Lesson Plan

Grade Level: Primary


Subject: English
Topic: Wheels on the Bus
Duration: 40-60minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this lesson,

1. Students will actively listen to the song and


identify key words and phrases.
2. Students will perform corresponding actions (e.g.,
rolling hands, opening and shutting arms) to
match the lyrics.
3. Students will collaborate with peers during
singing and group activities.
4. Students will enhance their listening and
speaking skills by repeating and singing the lyrics.
5. Students will connect emotionally with the
activity by enjoying the music and participating
enthusiastically.

1. Audio recording
2. Flashcard (pictures of buses, wheels, doors, horn
etc)
3. Digital text
4. Worksheet
5. Toys

LESSON OUTLINE
1.Introduction (10 minutes):
● Engage: Play a short audio clip of a bus horn and
ask “What do you think this sound is? Have you
heard of it before?”,“What sounds do buses make
when they’re moving? What about when they
stop?”. Encourage students to guess and share
their experiences with buses (sounds they’ve
heard, like horns, doors opening, or people
talking).

● Explain: Introduce the concept of different types
of transportation and its importance in daily life
(by showing toys)

Explanation (15 minutes):


1. Discuss: Explain different parts of buses.
2. Introduction of vocabulary: Introduce the
vocabulary in the song by using flash cards.
3. Demonstrate: Start by displaying a picture of a
bus and teach the word "bus".
● Next, show the wheels and again teach the word
"wheels". Now teach the action word "go round
and round" and get everybody making round and
round movements with their arms as you say
"The wheels on the bus go round and round".
● Show the doors on the bus and teach "doors",
"open and shut" and practice doing opening and
shutting actions with your arms.
● Now show wipers onto the picture and teach
"wipers" and "swish" and get everyone to do the
swishing action with their arms.
● Display the image of light on bus and teach the

action “ blink” with hands
● Then show a picture of honking the horn. Teach
and practice "horn" and "beep".
● Show the image of the motor of the bus and make
the sound “ vroom”.
● Ask students to demonstrate movement inside the
moving bus and demonstrate “up and down” with
their hands
● Show flashcard pictures of crying baby. Teach and
practice "baby" and the sound"wah,wah".
● Practice mother says,”shh,shh”
● Finally, Father says “I love you!” with gestures of
love.

Hands-on Activity (15 minutes):


1. Group work: Play "I say, you do".Now to practice
the vocabulary. Get everyone to stand up facing
the teacher. Start by saying a random sentence
from the song (e.g. "The doors on the bus go open
and shut") and get everyone to do the action. At
first go slowly, saying different sentences and
having everyone do the action from the gestures

section below. Then go faster and faster until it is
impossible to keep up.
2. Role play :play the song and encourage students
to enact different roles.

Discussion and Reflection (10


minutes):
1. Review: Read classroom reader "Bob's Bus”.Get
the students really involved in the story by asking
lots of questions (e.g. about the colours of the
uniform, bus and people's clothes, the clothing
vocabulary for the driver's uniform, etc.).
2. Real-World Connection: Ask students about how
they think of traveling experience on other
vehicles.
3. Q&A: Allow time for students to ask questions or
clarify any doubts.

Assessment (5 minutes):
1. Interactive Worksheet: ask students to match

picture with appropriate word.
2. Recitation: Initiate students to recite the rhyme
individually.

Homework/Extension:
1. Draw a picture of bus and colour it
2. Find out similar rhyme on ‘Bus’ and present in the
class.

Assessment Criteria:
1. Observe participation and enthusiasm during
singing and actions.
2. Check if students can recall at least one verse and
perform the corresponding
3. Responses to the Worksheet and Questions
4. Completion and accuracy of the homework
assignment

Differentiation:
1. For Advanced Students: Assign to read the book
‘Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!’ and present

the review on next class.
2. For Struggling Students: Repeat the lyrics and
actions. Pair them with peers for collaborative
learning.
