moon surface.

in many experiments, including military ones.

C. What did he mean? These are things Bluford said. Match his words with
what he meant when he said them.
What he said:
a. "I had to struggle through those courses at Penn State—but if you really want to do
something and are willing to put in the hard work it takes, then someday—bingo, you've
done it!"
b. "We had gotten very comfortable with shuttle launches."
c. "When you're floating around in space, you feel the same when you're upside down as
you do an when you're right side up."

What he meant:
1. Bluford was explaining how the feeling of gravity changes in space. When there is no
gravity or weightlessness, the human body doesn’t have the usual “up” and “down”
orientation that we experience on Earth. _____
2. He suggested that after numerous successful missions, people had become complacent
about the potential dangers of space travel. Bluford is indicating that the tragic loss of
life in the Challenger disaster was a wake-up call. _____
3. Bluford meant that even though he had to face difficulties and challenges while studying
at Penn State, he was able to overcome them and achieve his goals. He believed that if
you have a strong desire and are willing to put in the hard work and effort required, then
eventually you would be successful. _____

AFTER-READING

box. There are more words than you need.
