Lab 007 / User Account & Backup

Name: Section:
Student #: Table:
When complete, ask instructor to sign__________________ and submit the screenshots.
1) Routine Backup Setup
Data Backup is a very critical job for all users; in this section, we will test one of the automatic
backup software solutions called SyncBackFree. There are multiple different solutions available.

A. Initial Preparations:
In real life, we will have actual data that we will backup. However, we will create some fake data
files in our Lab to use since we have no actual data.
 Create two folders on your Desktop, Name them HomeWork & School.
 In each folder create a few files “at least 8 Word, or Excel files make sure you type something in the file”.
In this class, we will backup the data to your USB, so go to your USB and create a folder named
Backup-600##### (## your 600 number), then create two folders inside that HomeWork Backup &
School Backup

B. Set the Backup Application:

1. We will use a backup application called SyncBackFree,
Google it, and install it on your computer.
2. SyncBackFree, offers good features for a backup solution; the software works in simple
principles:
we didn't add step-by-step instructions on purpose, so you need
to learn how to explore and understand new systems .
 Create two Backup Profiles, one to backup your HomeWork folder and the other to backup
your School folder. Make sure you RUN the backup after you set that up, the system usually only does
Simulation and doesn’t actually Backup.
 Schedule the Backup profile HomeWork folder to be done every day, while the School
folder is once a week. system will show a warning that your user has no password, no problem you can continue
without the password.

profiles.

C. Recover Data from the backup:

The reason we did the backup is to be able to recover the files in case of a disaster, now we will
check if you can restore deleted files using the backup application.
1. On your PC, go to the Homework & School folders and delete a couple of the files you had in
them.
2. Now go to SyncBackFree and try to restore the deleted files.

2) User Account
As we explained in the PowerPoint presentation, we can create user
accounts from two places in Windows 10. either from inside the
settings or from Computer Management.
In this part of the Lab, we will try both options.

A. Create Four Accounts, 2 from System Setting and 2 from computer management:
1. Create two additional users using the Local User Management under Computer
Management.
Click on the Start Menu > type Computer Management > access the
Local Users and Groups.
Before you create the users remember
 Remove the selection of "User must change password."
 Select the "Password never expires."
The Two Users we will create are Buzz & Jessie both should have Password1
as the password.
We also need to set Buzz as an Administrator user and for that, we will need
to add him to the Administrators Group. We did explain that in the Lecture
part, so either look at the lecture or use Google to find out.

Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 2, Showing the user management screen with the two accounts.
2. Create two new user accounts on your computer using the Start Menu  Settings 
Accounts, options, we will NOT use a Microsoft Account we will use a local account on the
computer.
 Forky set him as Administrator Account with Password1 as Password.
 Woody set him as Standard User, with Password1 as Password.
It will ask you to set the question for password recovery questions, so feel free to answer them.

B. Experimenting with the 4 users:
1. Before you log in to any of the users, go to the C:\users do you find any user profiles for the
four users we created above?  Yes  No Explain Why Below
If you don’t know why that means you need to review the lecture presentation 😊

2. Now Login to the Forky user account, and on his desktop, create a couple of files.
3. Now try to go to the user profile folder c:\users and check what folder you will see there.
List the new folders that just show under the C:\users

4. Open the Folder c:\users\forkey, here are all the user details.
Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 4, Showing the contents of c:\users\forkey Folder.

5. Now logout from the Forkey account and login for the other three accounts, Buzz, Woody,
and Jessie.
6. Go back to the Forky account, and check if you can access the Buzz, Woody, and Jessie
profiles and files. Their profiles will be under c:\users
Are you able to access their profiles  Yes  No Explain Why Below

Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 5, Showing the contents of c:\users Folder.

7. Now login to Woody’s account and check if you can access Jessie’s profiles.

Are you able to access her profiles  Yes  No Explain Why Below

Stop and Wait for the Instructor's presentation.

3) Format and reinstall OS. Don't Do these steps alone; walk with the instructor
Our customer Mr. Forky had a problem with his home computer; it looks like the computer is
infected with Viruses, I tried to clean the viruses, but it seems the viruses caused a lot of damage to
the OS. Therefore, I recommend we format his computer, Mr. Forky is ok with that, but he asked
for a backup of his data from the computer before we format it.

1. Please list the steps you think we should do:

Discuss with the instructor before you move to the next step

Discuss with the instructor before you move to the next step

3. How to Backup

4) User’s Data Restore:

In this part of the lab, we will assume that we did the back of
the user data to the instructor server, and now it is time to put
the data back in the user’s profile folder.
 Login to Mr. your main account.
 Access one of the instructor’s servers \\192.168.26.102
or \\192.168.26.101 or \\192.168.26.100 or \\
192.168.26.99  Applications then copy Forky Backup
folder to the desktop.
 The Forky Backup folder contains 4 folders, one for
each user, so you need to copy the contents of each
folder, not the whole folder just the content to the C:\
users\each_user
 Now if you check the Forky account and see how his files are back to Document,
Download, and Desktop.
Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 6, Showing your full desktop and that it contains Forky’s files.

5) Cloud Backup
Many companies are building cloud storage and providing this service to their
customers; many companies offer this service, GDrive from Google, One
Drive from Microsoft, Dropbox
We will work on Google Drive.
1. Download the Google Drive application from https://www.google.com/drive/download/.
2. Start the Application and sign in with your Google Account.
3. Configure the application to backup only the HomeWork folder from your desktop to the
Cloud.
4. Visit the Google Drive website and check if the backup shows.
Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 6, Showing the backup folder on your Google Drive site.
5. On your Google Drive site, create a folder, name it with your 600#### number.
6. Share this folder with anyone who has the link.
Take a screenshot, Lab7-S- 7, Showing the shared folder screen.
7. Warning Logoff your google account from the Browser,
8. Restart the computer, and log with your account.
9. Close google Drive application from the task bar, then
uninstall it from control panel.
