ACUTE AND CHRONIC HEALTH EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE:
Irritating to eyes.
Overexposure to iodine vapors may cause irritation of respiratory tract, may aggravate asthma, chronic bronchitis
and thyroid disorders.
Once ingested, it may cause stomach distress, nausea or vomiting.

4. FIRST-AID MEASURES
EYE CONTACT :
Flush eyes with water for at least 15 minutes with eyelids held open. Seek medical attention.
INGESTION:
Drink several glasses of water. Do not induce vomiting. Never give anything by mouth to unconscious patients.
SKIN CONTACT:
Irritation occurs on Iodine vapors, wash with soap and water.
INHALATION:
If inhaled, remove to fresh air.

5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES


Flammable Properties: Non-flammable.
Extinguishing Media
Suitable Extinguishing media: Treat for surrounding material.
Protective Equipment for fire fighters: Firefighters should wear self-contained breathing apparatus and full
protective gear should be worn.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES


1. Personal Precautions: Keep unnecessary personnel away. Do not touch damaged container or spilled material
unless wearing appropriate protective clothing.
2. Environmental Precautions: Prevent product entry into waterways, sewers, basements or confined areas.
3. Spill Clean-up: Wear suitable protective clothing and equipment.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE


Handling:
Use good industrial hygiene practices in handling this material.
Storage:
Keep tightly closed in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROL/PERSONAL PROTECTION


Control Measures: Iodine maybe neutralized with sodium thiosulfate.

Personal Protective Equipment:


1. Respiratory protection: Avoid breathing of vapors, mists or spray.
2. Hand protection: Use protective gloves
3. Eye protection: Use safety glasses with eyeshields. Avoid eye contact with vapors, mists or spray.

10. STABILITY REACTIVITY


Stability: Stable under recommended storage conditions.
Hazardous polymerization: Will not occur.
Conditions & Materials to avoid: Heat causes decrease in available iodine. Do not mix with other chemicals.
Hazardous decomposition products: May produce iodine vapors.
11. TOXICOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS
Acute toxicity:

Primary skin irritation/rabbit/Wei Ming Test:
Product: approx. 50% in water – non-irritant
Primary mucous membrane irritation/rabbit’s eyes/Wei Ming test – irritant

12. ECOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS


Environmental precautions: Ensure that any leaks or spills are cleaned up.

Spill or Leak Precautions: Do not allow to flow into water supplies. Absorb any leaked material or neutralize with
sodium thiosulfate.
Do not discharge product into natural waters without pre treatment (biological treatment plant).

13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS


May usually be disposed in landfill. Seek the advice of a professional disposal service. Ensure disposal method
complies with local, provincial and federal regulations.
