Problem Statement
Your client is a
food delivery app
looking to increase
a metric - Daily
Active Users (DAU)
for their app.
Please advice.
Interview Thread
Interviewee: Thank you for the case. Can I ask
some clarifying questions before I begin
structuring the case?
Interviewer: You may go ahead.
Interviewee: Could you please explain what DAU
means and how it is relevant to the client?
Interviewer: DAU is an app user who opens and
engages with the client's mobile application on a
given day. It is relevant to our client as they look
to convert some users only when someone opens
the app.
Interviewee: Alright, fair enough. I would like to
know a little more about the client. Is it a food
delivery app or assists with dine-in or is it
something else?
Interviewer: The client currently is a food delivery
app like Swiggy or Zomato.
Interviewee: Could you also help me with the
scale of operations and if the client is looking to
increase this metric in a particular location?
Interviewer: The client is primarily based out of
tier 1 cities. They are looking to increase the DAU
in all regions of operation.
Interviewee: I think I have enough information to
begin the case. When I look at increasing the DAU,
I will begin with the steps of how an app is
installed and then how a user begins to use the
app. Would that be a fair approach?
Interviewer: Yes, you may proceed with the same.
Interviewee: I will consider three major steps to
get a user on the app:
1. Downloading the app
2. Signing up on the app
3. Using the app
Have I considered all the segments, or would you
like to consider some more?
Interviewer: That's a fair consideration. You may
begin by assessing the users who already have the
app installed on their phones and how we can
prompt them to open it.
Interviewee: Since we are looking to increase the
engagement by existing users, is it safe to assume
that right now these users are not opening the app
daily and we need to look at adding more ways to
engage them and make them open the app?
Interviewer: This is a fair assumption, and you may
suggest recommendations based on the same.
Interviewee: We can consider attracting users on
the app by push or pull, where pull refers to
organically enticing them to open the app. Push is
by using mobile notifications/SMS to increase the
visibility & attract them to open the app.
that's a wrap!
