TYPES OF CARVING
 WOOD CARVING
- A traditional form, utilizing various woods for intricate details and expressive form
 STONE CARVING
- Using materials like marble, granite, or sandstone, stone carving requires
immense skill and often features monumental sculptures
 METAL CARVING
- Sculpting with metals like bronze, silver, or steel
 SOAP CARVING
- the art form of carving soap with a variety of tools to create sculptures and
images

 CHISELS AND GOUGES
- Used for shaping and carving, each tool has a specific profile and function
 MALLETS
- Used to strike chisels and gouges, providing the force needed for carving
 SANDPAPER
- For smoothing and refining the surface of the sculpture, creating a polished finish

 RELIEF CARVING
- Involves carving into the surface of a material, creating raised designs

COMPONENTS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
 THE APERTURE
- the amount of light that enters the camera
- the size is called F-stop
 THE LENS
- Focuses the light onto the photosensitive surface such as film
- Can be focused manually or automatically
1) TELEPHOTO LENSES – magnify far away object
2) WIDE ANGLE LENSES – broad view of objects within confined area
 THE FILMS
- Records the image that is take shot by a camera
- Can be black and white
 THE DIGITAL CAMERA
- Translates visual images that pass through a lens
 DIGITAL ARTS
- A system used by computers that process words and images directly as numbers
or digits.
 PAINT PROGRAM
- Images are stored as bitmaps, which are the series of tiny dots or pixel
- The ability to edit pixel by pixel is an advantage of this program
 DRAW PROGRAM
- Images are stored as a series of line or curves
- The ability to change size without distorting the image
 MULTIMEDIA ART
- Combining text, graphics, video, and sound into one document

 CANVAS
- Made of a closely woven, heavy cloth of cotton
- Painting is usually done with oils
 WOOD
- Hardboard
KINDS OF WOOD
 MASONITE
- Trademarked brand name
- Made from wood fibers and glue(resin) molded into a flat board (ex:chessboard)
 PLYWOOD
- Made from wood veneers
- Thin slices of wood glued together
 CHARCOAL
- An organic drawing material from burnt wood
 GRAPHITE PENCIL
- easy to use and not as messy as charcoal
DRAWING
- Process of moving an instrument over a smooth surface to leave a mark called
line
KINDS OF DRAWING
1) LIFE DRAWING – based directly on the observation of the artist of his subject
2) EMOTIVE DRAWING - expression of different emotions
3) SKETCHING- done “at the spur of the moment”
4) PERSPECTIVE DRAWING – the artist creates a 3D image on a 2D plane
SHADING TECHNIQUE
1) SHADING- use of light and shadow
2) HATCHING – thin lines in the same direction
3) CROSS-HATCHING – criss-crossing lines
4) BLENDING – changing the value little by little
5) STIPPLING – using dot patterns
 DRAWING WITH GRAPHITE PENCILS

- can do better on cold press papers
 DRAWING WITH CHARCOAL
- In using compressed charcoal, the blank that results is much darker than vine
charcoal. Compressed charcoal can be used alone or blended with vine charcoal
 KNEADED ERASER
- Add character to the charcoal drawing
 CHAMOIS CLOTH
- Another tool for blending and removing charcoal
- It cannot bring back the white of the paper
 FIXATIVE SPRAY
- Used after the project is done to make the charcoal adhere to the paper
permanently

 CRAFTS - objects that are created first to be functional second is to be aesthetic
 CERAMICS - object that are made of clay.
 TEXTILE ART
- fibers are used to make functional or decorative arts
LIST OF FIBERS
 PIÑA FIBER - leaves of the pineapple plant.
 JUSI - combination of abaca and banana.
 COTTON - can be knitted or woven into cloth. base on its grade, color and length
of the fiber and its characters.
 ABACA - musa texilis but more popular in manila emp, species of banana native
to the pilipines.
 BASKET WEAVING
- known as basketry
- use of animal and plant flan
 METAL WORK AND JEWELRY
- proses of refining and working with metals
 SHELL CRAFT
- use of seashells to decorate objects or surfaces and make fancy accessories.
 COCONUT CRAFT- to create beautiful functional artwork. carved in different
designs depending on what is being made
 JEEPNEY ART
- iconic art of transport
- decorated based on the personality and taste of the owner.
 BAMBOO CRAFTS
- is a versatile material used for creating functional and intricate crafts

- traditional patterns and symbols that carry significant meanings

- a bird symbolizing good fortune in maranao
