    EXPECTATION
    EXPECTATIONS

    In this lesson, the students shall be able to


    perform the following:
    1. Classify tools according to usage.
    2. Identify the different hand tools in
    Electronics.
    3. Get familiarize with each tool’s function.
    4. Answer a short assessment.
    HAND TOOLS USED IN
    ELECTRONICS
    Tools are devices used to perform a certain task.
    Damaged tools should not
    be used for may risk the job and the technician as
    well. Tools used in Electronics are
    categorized according to its functionality as to
    driving, boring, soldering, splicing,
    cutting, or auxiliary.
    DRIVING
    TOOLS
    FLAT
    SCREWDRIVER
    - used to loosen or
    tighten
    negative slotted
    screws.
    CROSSHEAD/PHIL
    IPS
    SCREWDRIVER

    - used to loosen
    or tighten crosshead
    screws.
    PRECISON SET/
    JEWELER’S
    SCREWDRIVER
    set of
    screwdrivers with different
    sizes and end drivers.
    Some set has only one
    handle and the end drivers
    can be change as to what is
    needed.
    SOLDERING
    TOOLS
    SOLDERING IRON
    a device for applying heat
    to melt
    lead in joining two metal
    parts. It is composed of a
    heated metal tip and an
    insulated handle. Higher
    wattage indicates that the
    device easily heats up
    when plugged in. Ideally
    for beginners, used 20 –
    30 watts.
    SOLDERING GUN
    same function as of soldering
    iron
    only that it has an added
    feature where the lead is
    already in the gun so there’s no
    need to hold the
    soldering lead and the iron
    separately. It’s an easier
    tool to use when joining two
    metal parts.
    SOLDERING
    STAND
    a tool where the soldering
    iron
    or gun is placed during
    usage. This will keep the
    soldering iron or gun away
    from flammable
    materials. It comes with a
    sponge or cork used in
    cleaning the tip of the iron.
    DESOLDERING
    PUMP/TOOL

    it is used in removing
    soldered wires and
    components on printed
    circuit
    board for troubleshooting
    and repairing purposes.
    SPLICING
    TOOLS
    LONG NOSE
    PLIERS

    used for holding, bending,


    and
    stretching the lead of
    electronic component or
    connecting wires.
    SIDE CUTTER
    also known as
    “wire cutting
    pliers”.
    It is used to cut
    wires.
    WIRE STRIPPER
    a pair of opposing
    blades like wire
    cutter but has a center
    notch for removing
    insulation without
    cutting the wires.
    BORING
    TOOLS
    12V MINI HAND
    DRILL

    used to bore or drill


    holes in
    the printed circuit
    board with sizes from
    1/32” – 1/16”.
    PORTABLE
    ELECTRIC HAND
    DRILL
    used for boring
    hole(s) in plastic or metal
    chassis with the used of
    drill bits ranging from 1/6” to
    approximately ¼”
    sizes.
    METAL FILE

    Metal Files – hand tolls


    with series of sharp,
    parallel ridges or teeth.
    Most with narrow,
    pointed
    tang at one end to which a
    handle can be fitted.
    FLAT FILE – is parallel in width and tapered
    in
    thickness; they are used for flat surfaces
    and edges

    HALF ROUND FILE– is tapered in width and


    thickness, coming to a point and is
    narrower than a standard half round and
    used for filing inside of rings.

    ROUND FILE – is also called “rat-tail file”


    which is gradually tapered and used for
    many tasks that require a round tool, such
    as enlarging round holes or cutting a
    scalloped edge.
    CUTTING
    TOOLS
    UTILITY KNIFE
    used in cutting
    various trades and
    crafts for a variety of
    purposes.
    HACKSAW
    used for cutting metals. Some
    have
    pistol grips which keep the
    hack saw firm and easy
    to grip. The small hand-held
    hacksaws consist of
    a metal arch with a handle that
    first around a
    narrow, rigid blade.
    AUXILLIARY
    LED LIGHT
    MAGNIFYING GLASS
    a tool used to
    produce an enlarged
    image of an object. It
    comes
    with LED to clearly see the
    components with the
    aid of a light.
    PAINT BRUSH
    used for cleaning
    dirty parts of a
    circuit or any
    device and
    appliances.
