BACKGROUND & NOTES


An orphan, Erik was raised on the streets of Dale, the capital of the Laos Islands, by a group of fellow humanoids. Dale was ruled by the head of the local church, the Arch Deacon Mulafacett. Tieflings were outlawed, along with any creature who wasn't a pure blooded human. This group of half-breeds, about 40 individuals in all, would spend their days and night hidden in abandoned homes, or in sewers, venturing out rarely for supplies. For Erik, this felt more like a game, and he would often spend as much time as he dared amongst the humans. During one such dance with danger, Erik was discovered by a human female named Vanessa, who rather than report him to the city priest and guards, kept his secret. For over a year Erik would sneak his way into the city to meet Vanessa, and convinced himself he had fallen in love with her. One early morning, after spending his first full night in Vanessa's bed, Erik returned to the hide out to find his friends brutally slain, each death appearing to be a merciful killing after torture. Men, women, children, even babies had been killed, though the deaths seemed to have happened a few days ago. Rushing back to Vanessa, Erik discovered he had been magically put to sleep, and divulged the location to Vanessa, who was revealed to be the High Inquisitor for the Dale Church. While Erik spend several days working his way back to consciousness, Vanessa and the Church Inquisitors had destroyed the nest of "unclean" in their city. Erik doesn't recall how he managed to escape the city, and spent the remaining years in hiding, working as a thief for higher, and cursing all humans. One night Erik met an Oracle, who told Erik he would one day encounter a group of individuals, and his journey would begin to exact revenge on Vanessa. Erik is now driven by this one goal, and will do anything it takes to complete it.
