The clip has 20mm of adjustment, a side load capacity of 125kN with a M24 8.8 grade bolt (140kn with 10.9 grade
bolt) and has a mounting width of 180mm plus the rail’s foot width. The clip is designed for pad or non-pad mounted
rails such as:
• Australian rails: 68 kg, 73 kg & 86 kg
• European rails: A120, A150, MRS 73, MRS 86 & MRS 87A
• American rails: 171 CR & 175 CR
• Japanese rails: CR 73 & CR 100
• Chinese rails: QU120
• Indian rails: ISCR120
• Other rails: SP 120
These are a small selection of the rails available that the 2524/20 clip will fit.
So how does the clip compare to other cam clips on the market:
Clip Design Side Load (kN) Adjustment (mm) Mounting Width (mm) Self-locking Mechanism
Whilst the 2524/20 has a larger mounting width than some of the other cam clips on the market. The clip has the
patented self-locking mechanism. In addition to this, the design of the clip makes it very robust. The side ribs and
thicker metal nose also give it excellent uplift capacity.
The clip (other than the Uni-clip 2524) is the only one completely compatible with both soft and hard mounting
systems. A soft mounted system is made up of a clip with integral rubber nose and elastomer pad (which sits
underneath the rail).
• The elastomer pads: Gantrail’s crane rail pads (such as the Mk8) allow the rail to rotate a small amount so
the rail and crane wheel can smoothly interface. This helps evenly distribute the stress from the wheel load
throughout the system and prevents stress concentration spots due to the uneven surfaces of the rail and
steel structure. The pad also helps prevent fretting corrosion (by separating the rail from the steel supporting
structure) and helps to reduce noise and vibration.
• The clip has an integral rubber nose, and the purpose is to separate the steel nose of the clip from the foot of
the rail with the compressible rubber nose (which you would not have with rigid clamp clips). This is to avoid
fatigue / failure of the bolt(s) or clip over time (which can occur with rigid clamp clips), due to the bow wave
effect of the rail as the crane travels along the length of the rail. Rubber noses exerts a limited downwards
force which helps restrain the rail from longitudinal movement, due to thermal expansion or longitudinal wheel
loads (accelerating / braking of the crane).
