28. We know that the lengths of the tangents from an exterior point to a circle are equal.
Therefore, AR= AQ ….(i) ( tangents from A)
BP = BR …..(ii) ( tangents from B )
CQ = CP ……(iii) ( tangents from C) ( 1 mark)
(AR+BP+CQ) = (AQ +BR+CP) = k ( Adding equations i, ii, iii)
Perimeter of ∆ABC = ( AB +BC + CA)
= (AR+BR) + (BP+CP) + (CQ+AQ)
= (AR+BP+CQ) + (AQ+BR+CP) ( 1 mark)
=k+k
2k = Perimeter of ∆ABC
k = ½ (Perimeter of ∆ABC) ( 1 mark)
Hence proved
29. Let the original speed of the train be x km/hr.
360
Time taken at original speed = hours ( ½ mark)

𝑥
1 1 4
⇒ 360 (𝑥 - 𝑥+5 ) = 5
⇒ x2 + 5x – 2250 = 0
⇒ x = 45 or -50 (as speed cannot be negative ) ( 1 mark)
X = 45 km/hr

𝑥−1 𝑥−2
(x+1) (x+2) (x−2) + (x−2)2 (x−1) + (2x+3) (x−1) (x+2)
(𝑥−1)(𝑥+2)(𝑥−2)
=4 ( 1 mark)
⇒ (x+1) (x2 – 4) + (x-1) (x2 +4-4x) + (2x+3) (x2 +x-2) = 4 (x-1) (x2-4)
⇒ 5x2 + 19x -30 = 0 ( 1 mark)

33. Let the speed of car that starts from A be x km/hr and the speed of the car that starts
from B be y km/hr
Case (i)
After 8 hours, distance covered by Car A is 8x and distance covered by Car B is 8y.
ATQ,
8x ⎼ 8y = 80
x ⎼y = 10 (1 ½ mark)
Case (ii)
After 1 hour 20 minutes, ie 4 /3 hours distance covered by Car A is 4x/3 and distance covered
by Car B is 4y/3
ATQ,
4x/3 + 4y/3 = 80
x+y=60 (1 ½ mark)
On solving equations (i) and (ii) we get x = 35 and y = 25 ( 1 ½ marks)
Thus, speed of Car A = 35 km/hr and speed of Car B = 25 km/hr ( ½ mark )
